About to open for Silverstein and The Wonder Years with my MS Pre! ImageUploadedByTalkBass1370744352.323572.jpg

I had a malfunction with with my MS Pre during a set. There was a bad resistor that overloaded the voltage to the pedal and it blew. Ben had just emailed an advisory that this may be an issue and he was mailing parts to all of us who own his products.

I emailed Ben yesterday and explained the issue. He called me personally and worked the whole thing out. He makes great sounding gear, and was not at fault for my issue. All will be rectified soon. This should not scare anyone away from working with Ben. I am sure my malfunction will be an isolated case once the caps are repaired.

+1

This stuff isn't to scare people off. It's worth noting that this will happen from time to time when you go boutique. In the same way that an assembly line Honda would be more reliable than the first Dodge Viper, built in a shed in Detroit out of various parts. You've got something special, something that's a hot rod. You will have a few kinks here and there, comes with the territory. Thankfully with Ben, you've got one of the best warranties out there

Thankfully it looks really easy to do and no direct-to-board soldering is needed, just soldering to 2 other parts

that's a relief. I'll check out the vid tonight or tomorrow, but I should be able to handle that myself. Being in Canada it'll probably be a while till the replacement part comes anyway. I guess I'm back to the Ampeg 3-PRO in the mean time...

On a similar but happier note, my BYOC kits just came in: a Confidence Booster to start, and a Leeds Fuzz to follow. Anyone here try building one of these pedal kits before?

I'm hoping these will be good enough practice to build one or two Seventh Circle Audio mic preamp kits this fall.

Sorry to pile on, but is there a specific range of dates for the pedals that have this issue? I have a somewhat older version - about 6 months old, and I haven't received any proactive communication from Ben. That said, I also haven't had any issues. Seems like this may be like a recall on a car - something that should be fixed whether the owner is experiencing a problem or not, as long as the products are part of the suspected cohort. Just wondering what the specific cohort is, and whether I'm part of it.

Only Ben could tell you that for sure. Send him an email!

Connected with Ben - got the video emailed and a resistor is on the way via regular mail. Ben had part of my email wrong, so that's why I hadn't heard from him, but he had already sent the resistor to me. Glad that I have a chance to get on top of this before I has an issue.
