Just got my MS back. Paired it with my Lakland DJ5 (passive) and the Thunderfunk 800 and it is spectacular. I think going passive with the bass while using the MS is the way to go for me from here on out.
I too have ran active and passive through it. My active pups are hot and seem to take away some of the subtle character that gives the MS that tube depth in the tone. Basically, I feel the active pups from my bass push to hard into the tubes and I get break up, but not the natural smooth break up typical of tube tone we all want.
My passive on the other hand, sounds orgasmicly amazing.
Just picked up some Minus the Bear tix for October when they come through Minneapolis. Can't wait to see a great band live and hear that MS amp live.
