It has chickenhead knobs on it now
It's sketchy history:
It's claimed it was sent as a bare body and neck to G&L, re-fin'd at the factory.
It's real nice paint. New frets with great work on them. The neck is not as aged looking as other bases I have of that vintage.
The pup isn't slot pole as it should be-it's current vintage small hex head; and the guts are newer. OMG mode is there and fully functional.
The jack isn't on the control plate as it should be, it's off the side ala current issue...
Not that there is a current issue wunkay

As I become familiar with it I am starting to wonder why I would ever play my p basses again. I love this bass! It's pretty different sounding from my 83 L2K neck p/u. Less edgy and more of a thumpy vintage sound. Through my 70s Ampeg V4B in the sweet spot it produces wonderful tone.

This one is right around 9lbs. My friend Eric, who owns a 57 and a 64 P-Bass calls this one special, and says it's too pristine to gig with. I guess I'll have to get another one, too...

A dead mint L1K (or L2Ke, or whatever G&L) isn't worth more than $1500, tops.
It ain't like a 51 P in mint condition that's worth in the $XX,XXX range...and even then, IMHO:
No such thing.
If it ain't makin' music, it's not a bass anymore.

Not tryin' to pick a fight, just sayin'; YMMV, etc.

Sure, but I can use it for recording and playing at home. Mostly it provides an excuse to purchase another, slightly more mojo'd L-1000 for live performance. I like your red/maple one, btw.

Here's my 1980 L-1000. Looks great and plays better. But it's taken a back seat to my new SB-2 that I can't keep my hands off of right now. It'll still get played but just not as much.

Anyone have microphonic pickups? Last night I discovered mine is in a big way. Of all the basses I have played in 15 years I have never heard anything like it! Tap the bass pretty much anywhere and it sounds like a big hollow box.

I dont know if its considered a bad thing or not. I would think its good - the pickup is quite sensitive.

I think I've heard of this being cured by "re-potting" the pup; putting a new wax surround about the windings to dmapen thier sensitivity to the vibrations it's picking up that are not string related.

Thnx yeah I just read up on that. No microphonic pickups are not good. Oh well at least its not real bad. Man I wish I grabbed that slot L1K p/u on the bay not long ago.

I don't think it sold.
The seller is the same guy with the mahogany L1K body up right now. email him.
As I said before, I think this is easily fixed.
