My refinished 81. Ash /Rosewood 9lbs. Originally Trans green then nicotine natural !

Needs a final polish - but considering the poor condition that it was in previously (bad refin)

My recently aquired 81. It's an "OK" refin, but I'm planning on leaving it as is. There's a dead switch from a previous J mistake. I'll do better on the pics another time. Just to be annoying, I'll add that my total outlay for the Tmax, Aggies and L1000 was $850.

It's claimed it was sent as a bare body and neck to G&L, re-fin'd at the factory.
It's real nice paint. New frets with great work on them. The neck is not as aged looking as other bases I have of that vintage.
The pup isn't slot pole as it should be-it's current vintage small hex head; and the guts are newer. OMG mode is there and fully functional.
The jack isn't on the control plate as it should be, it's off the side ala current issue...

Chef, I found a story about the black L-1000 and assumed it was yours:

The headstock says "G&L L-1000 Series E". Strange. The story seems a bit far fetched but who knows!

Yessir, that's the one.
I presume the sticker is "cause they didn't have anything else laying around," but it would have been easy enuff to leave off the "E Series," eh?
Maybe they spliced a "1" in where the "2" should have been.
I dunno.
What I do know is that it's super light and resonant, the fretwork is *awesome*, the finish is superb, and I like it, lots.

hi all just picked this wunkay off craiglist stupid cheap!!!! body has been refinished poorly , but she plays great and the neck date reads april 30 1980, making this bass pre production by two and a half months, put on a set of TI flats, i leveled and buffed the frets, this one might be my main player, i love well seasoned firewood.:D:D

hi, no the serial number is 1066, but g&l did not use serial numbers in sequence, the neck date or body date is the only way to tell when it was made, i just thought it was cool that it was a real early one, im dusting it for leo`s fingerprints as we speak LOL:D , this is number three, i also have another 1980 natural over ash with a maple neck, and an 81 hog sunburst with a maple neck and slotted pole pieces, i love the simplicity , most people think the bass has active electronics, because of the OMG mode, enough of my rambling, rumble on steve.
