Thanks Chef, i got lucky and found this at a local Guitar Center, of all places. Body has some checking, neck is very clean, all stock hardware is intact.
I checked the neck, its stamped 82 as is the body.
It sounds like no other G&L.

Congrats!
How do you know this is a exactly HOG?
I've got the very same bass and I think it's a hog too. But it's just a guess - I don't know for sure...

If you have a solid finish you can find out by looking at any exposed wood - it will look brownish. If not you could always pop off the control plate and have a look in there.

I just got my first L-1000 off ebay sight unseen or heard and I am impressed. The neck is a bit wider and flatter than I am used to but its got a great sound. It makes me want to try an SB-2 now...

For your enjoyment, here is Bernard Edwards with a 1K (I think).

Nice score! I was looking that one over, even though I have no business buying another bass right now. If it had been candy apple red, I'd have pulled the trigger (I have one of the recent LE models in CAR/maple and would love to find its slot pole sister).

Welcome to the club. YMMV, but my suspicion is once you get used to that neck you're going to like it.

I'm also a big fan of the SB-2 and find switching between the two neck profiles is a minor adjustment at best.

1980 I got from the original owner, here in town:

With my '81:

Those two sound very similar, so I have one wearing rounds, one wearing flats...this 1981 CAR is meaner and grindier than either of them:
