routing can appear daunting at first but it aint too bad if you prepare properly. set a rail to guide the router along (i clamped a thin steel bar against my body. mark out your route and take it slow and steady. you could always clamp another bar in place to act as a stopper so you dont route anything u didnt want to.

if you are really wanting to go for Tim C.'s sound, i want to say i remember reading that he over-wound his own pickups with some kind of vintage enamel coated wire he bought while on tour a while back.
