I lived in a town named Oconomowoc for a while. It is referred to by some as Cooney. I lived in a small village, (not so small anymore) called Pewaukee. I heard it called Tinkletown many years ago. A nearby town called Watertown is referred to as Watertucky. Another nearby town called Johnson Creek, is called The Crik. Milwaukee used to be called Beer Town, or Brew City, but I don't hear those very often lately. I spend time in the upper peninsula of Michigan, and I call it The Norweigen Riviera.

I grew up in the OC
Santa Ana to be exact.

After all the TV shows like the OC and Real Housewives I love explaining to people that there are parts of the OC, like Santa Ana, that aren't exactly all beaches, glitter and millionaires.

I once drove through a place in Arkansas called Hogeye. I think the colloquial name for that town is Hogeye.

In the last 15 years or so I've seen Columbus referred to as Cbus or C-bus. This, I hate.

I live in the city. Some people hear us calling it that and get offended. We are not claiming is the only or best city we are just too lazy to say San Francisco all the time. Saying "I live in the city" is just easier to say than "I live in San Francisco." We only use that locally. If I was in another part of the country and I said I live in the city I am sure it would mean somewhere else.
Sometimes we call it s f. If someone calls it Frisco we know they are not from around here.
