In the '50s, some people put their cars on a rake - lowered the front end. It was also called "dagoed," which was a reference to the place where there were a lot of early adopters: San Diego.

I thought it was named after the aeolian activity which tended to foul people's Eggo waffles.

Santa Cruz doesn't have another name that I know of. SC could also be Santa Clara, just a 30min drive away. Tons of bumper stickers with "keep Santa Cruz weird" but I don't know if we have a nickname really. Anyone here know of one?

I live in the city. Some people hear us calling it that and get offended. We are not claiming is the only or best city we are just too lazy to say San Francisco all the time. Saying "I live in the city" is just easier to say than "I live in San Francisco." We only use that locally. If I was in another part of the country and I said I live in the city I am sure it would mean somewhere else.
Sometimes we call it s f. If someone calls it Frisco we know they are not from around here.

Many to us here in Sacramento used to listen to San Francisco-based Top 40 AM radio station KFRC back in the '70s, and the DJs often referred to San Francisco as The City.

The most confusing was when I lived in the San Francisco bay area but went to summer camp in Colorado. There was a town called Frisco and it totally messed up my internal geography.

I've never lived there but the eastern end of the Los Angeles metropolis is called the Inland Empire or more commonly, The 909. Described on Urban Dictionary as "A great place to live between Los Angeles and Las Vegas if you don't mind the meth labs, cows, and dirt people"

In live in a town called El Cajon. I have heard it simply called "The Box," but also some variations of El Caghetto.

i think of el cajon as "the place where taylor guitars is". and your board name is taylor. coincidence?

Its kinda the same thing with calling California "Cali." Pretty much no one from there calls it that and I cringe just a little bit every time I hear it.

born and raised in california, still live there. i don't think i've ever heard anyone call it cali, although i see that on a board every so often, and i cringe, too. i do occasionally refer to socal just for the sake of less typing, though.

Valencia went with this for a year or two. I haven't seen it in a while. They probably realized how stupid it was, or caught flack from the other cities in the SCV.
