Colloquially, where do you live?

I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Haligonia (habitants are Haligonians)
Califax (makes no sense)

Next town over is Sackville (that's it's real name, after a British Lord), AKA SackVegas. My fave.

Everyone called it Suckville when I lived in Halifax. Also Darkness across the harbour and Bedrock down at the end just before you get to Suckville. :D

Big Smoke as well. T'ronna is my home town.

Tronna or Tron-toe is how it's usually pronounced down here. Always 2 syllables. :D While not exactly Toronto I always loved Scarberia for Scarborough.

We have enough place names that are funny enough on their own: Dildo, next to Spread Eagle (seriously) Hibbs' Hole (now Hibbs' Cove I think), Joe Batt's Arm, Jerry's Nose, etc. There was a place called Famish Gut but they renamed it Fairhaven (I prefer Famish Gut) and a place called Gayside that was renamed (ludicrously) Baytona.

I consulted with a co-worker who lived there for a while. In addition to SM, there are some who call it SanMo, which I prefer.

i haven't heard sanmo from any of my friends, relatives or exes who live there. santa monica high school has been referred to as samo (sammo?) high for as long as i can remember, though.

btw, i made up SM just to have a nickname to post :D

Growing up, we use to call the South Bay area of L.A, "Surf City". The Beach Boy's Brian Wilson, who was from the South Bay, wrote the song and then shared it with Jan and Dean who made it a number one single. In 1991, Huntington Beach, CA trade marked the name and now they call themselves Surf City for the commercial value of promoting their city
