Hello Gang, I have a question for you. Do any of you have problems with "fret Sprout" aka "Neck Shrinkage" on your wooden basses you bring to our lovely state from other places? I have a humidifier running at my place almost all the time, but I still have a problem with basses coming from other states that seem to grow fans along the neck after being here for a few weeks or so. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue or is it something I'm doing wrong?

This can happen to any bass, low end or high end, just depends on how the neck wood reacts to the dry Colorado climate. It is a relatively easy fix with the correct tools, but easier on a neck with an unfinished fingerboard. In my opinion (living in CO for the last 12 or so years), it is a normal part of what can happen to a bass in a dry climate. Get it taken care of and you'll likely never have the issue again. If you do, a slight touch up is all that it takes.

Of course, YMMV and all that.

Dan

It is the last show! Three of us are moving on to a new project that's gonna be more rock and roll. Plus, I'm starting to pick up a little more work around town playing bass. It will be a really fun last show because we have the original lineup for the band.

It would be great to have some other bassists there. I love meeting more people that hold down the low end. Hope to see you there!

Are any of you guys on the westword ballot this year? My band, the kentucky parlor pickers" got nominated for the "roots rock" category. Let me know if any of you did as well, I'd like to support local TBers with my vote.

Congrats man! I'll vote for you. My band "Alan Baird Project" was on it for a couple years. We even played the showcase! I really thought it was a big deal then, but then I realized that the only people who pick up a Westword are either in a band trying to look for their name in print, or looking for one of the 10,000 dispensaries they advertise. So now, I use the Westword as a tool to discover new bands that might fit well on a show with my new band (Alan Baird project last show is this Friday at the marquis).

But hey, while you're voting, vote In The Whale for rock. I played their CD release with them and it was a blast. It was fun adding bass to a 2 piece! Also vote Rachel James for pop. I'll be playing on her upcoming album. We started preproduction not long ago and it's sounding amazing already.

Many of my basses have had this problem, particularly those that have been shipped in from more humid parts of the country. I either have them fixed by my luthier, Mike Patton of Eclipse Guitars, or I do it myself with a file that I bought online. Once the necks fully adjust to the Colorado dryness they seem to stay that way.

Mark your calendars!

Two bass greats, Frank Russell and Norm Stockton, are coming to Premier Bass Guitars in Colorado on Tues. May 8 at 7:00 PM. This bass clinic is sponsored by Lakland and Gallien-Krueger. More details to come. Space is limited, so RSVP early by calling us at the store (303) 495-0395. We hope to see you there!

UPDATE: RITA'S DRUMS ARE FOUND!

Thanks to Talkbass member "Kit829", Rita is getting her drums back. Kit829 was looking for the same drumset stumbled on a set on the Music Go Round website. She knew that there are not many Genista sets around, especially in red sparkle, so she replied to Rita's CL ad and called me at the store. Thanks to Kit829, Rita's drums are coming home!

Rita's drums were found at Music Go Round in Aurora, CO. While most of the cymbals were already gone, she is getting the red sparkle drums, her snares and some other stuff back. Aurora PD and Boulder County Sherrif are on the case, so hopefully they catch the perps.

Thanks again Kit829!

Very harsh, good luck. Let the Music Go Rounds, Wedgles and other pawn type music stores know so they can be on the look out.

for sure! when my bass got stolen, it ended up at a pawn shop the next day. i didn't have a serial number, so i searched ebay every day until i found my bass a couple months later. same thing happened to a friend of mine, his drums were stolen and he found them on ebay.

A friend of mine (who doesn't frequent this site) had his car broken into and bass stolen in the Colorado Springs area 2 weeks ago. He lives right outside of town in Falcon, goes by 'Lucky', and is well known in the CS area. As he's a very private person - feel free to PM me or post here, and information will be transferred to he and the local law enforcement authorities. This is a very distinct looking 2005 Carvin LB75 (5-string) he bought new and has the Carvin chip embedded in it (for whatever that is worth). Friends are assisting with funds for a newly ordered instrument, as he's currently only working part time. Everyone can appreciate impact of the loss of one's only bass, I trust, and any help would be more than appreciated PLUS rewarded. Thanks in advance...Whitey

I have bought and sold many basses and guitars over the years and I have more guitar/bass boxes then I will probably every use.

So...... I wanted to offer them up "for free" to my bass playing brothers and sisters here in Colorado. I live South of the Denver Metro area near the intersection of S. University Blvd and Arapahoe Road.

If you need a box to ship a bass in shoot me a PM and maybe I can help you out. I know that these are getting harder to find at music stores so try me if you can't find one elsewhere.

Plus this would give me a chance to meet some of you as well which would be an added bonus.....

Sling,

Ouch... I'll keep my eyes and ears open on that one. :(

I don't need any boxes as I can't really see myself parting with any more of my basses, but I'm always down to meet any players that are within reasonable "chilling distance"... I'm off I-25 & Yale. Some friends and I do a weekly happy hour at a local watering hole... If anyone wants to come down, shoot me a PM and I can get you details. :)
