Colored strings?

Im going to get a set of Black Beauties for an all black bass im setting up. I had Elixrs that came stock on a Schecter I had. I practiced and gigged a year straight without changing them!!!! They still sounded zingy and new before I sold the bass! The coating was just starting to fray towards the bridge. I wasnt a fan of the way they felt or the gauge. But, i was like dang!! they sound new every day and last through all the thrashing, moisture and sweat of gigs and practicing I may as well keep them on!

Personally I think colored strings are gimmicky and lame. But I have never tried playing a set so I'm going purely on cosmetics.

That reminds me... I was at a bluegrass festival over Labor Day and there was this upright strung with flourescent green (I kid you not) strings that were really thick and felt like rubber. They reminded me of a supersize version of what used to go on those little Guild Asbory basses years ago. Never seen anything that weird in my life. They actually didn't sound bad though, and were super easy on my fingers.

This may have been posted, but all I could think about when I saw this title were these:

I bought the gold ones for my Spector a while back for kicks to go along with the gold hardware and they were pretty good imo. Not exactly what I like, but great strings.

Edit: Yup, someone got to them before me. Still, there's some links.

They arent coloured, they are actual gold plated, like Optimas.

Nope! They are coated with a yellowy gold color. I have played several sets. Next to gold hardware they look like lemons. On a positive note, they play like buttah'!
The ones Eagle Moon played were on a bass I sent to her. They are very bright and Zingy. I've also used the colored DR's and a set of Auroras. I personally love colored strings and If I could get colored flats they'd be perfect!

The new Randy Jackson Alchemy Bass strings have a unique core-to-wrap ratio for proper tension, and a great sound and feel. And they have Stainless Steel under wraps, and they have our proprietary MC394 Gold cover wrap treatment over Silver-Plated NPS for added life.

Says its gold here, direct from their site.

I've had a couple of sets since then and I've been really impressed.

DR actually makes a wide assortment of colored coated strings (Black Beauties, Purple Passion, Red Devils, Hot Pink, Evergreen, etc). I've heard great things about the Black Beauties, but still have yet to try them. If I were to buy some I'd get them on eBay, a lot cheaper than from a music store.

I told you, you'd get hooked. Awesome strings. For what it's worth to anyone who cares I had a discussion with the Aurora people a while back and they claim that DR gets their colored outerwrap from them. The Aurora's have a nickel core and are not quite as zingy as the DR. I prefer the Aurora.

Hi Guy's: quite honestly I know nothing about these colored/coated strings. BUT I just put a set of Black beautys on a bass I just bought from Arbitrary (Jerzy Drozd 5 er) and I will say I like them. However having no other experiance with this type of strings my coments should be taken with a grain of salt.
but hey they sounded great through my BX500+ 2 GS112's and through a friends Kustom amp head and 2 2x10 cabs. for what it's worth.
