Coloured Strings. Yay or Nay?

I use the DRs on my all-black bass, but I can't imagine they would look good over any natural wood finish. I actually painted this one myself to go with the strings, since I missed my old green/black combo and wasn't a fan of the maple in the first place.

are you a Peter Steele fan?

I put Rotosound Tru-Bass black nylon coated 30" flatwounds on my converted Les Paul to bass. They look good, but the more I play, the less I like the sound and the stiffness of them. I also replaced the Aquila Thundergut cream colored fat but sticky strings on my Gold Tone GT MicroBass with Road Toad Pahoehoe yellow fat smoooths that feel and sound good, but I'm not crazy about the color. I'm planning on using red Road Toad Pahoehoe on my custom bass ukulele, but they are very bright too. I may experiment with grey/clear Weedwacker strings, but maybe not and just get a set of black Pahoehoe.

I'm having LaBella Deep Talkin' traditional looking clear nylon flatwound included on a custom Telecaster style 22" scale bass and hope they're better than the Rotosound for feel.

I happen to like them. I put red Aurora string on my bass, as they suit the color scheme. Not only does it look great, in my opinion,
but I am a big fan of Aurora strings now, colored or otherwise (they are also offered in oh-so-bland nickel color ;) )

I second this! I have a Burgundy Red Warwick Streamer and Aurora Red's look cool, play cool and sound cool!

How about "maybe"? Honestly, I've never really thought about it until now. The only tapewound/coated strings I have at the moment are Roto 88's; on a Rogue VB-100, and a Carvin LB-20. I appreciate the stiffness on the Carvin, since it's strung BEAD. But I play both of them with a pick, anyway. Looking at Macrocheesium's bass, though, the neon green ones might be just the thing for the black-gold-green Kramer Forum I'm fooling around with. Won't be my main player anyway, and it is an '80s Metal/Hair Band bass...:D

Which strings are these?

Hey Profania

DR's. I replaced them recently with the same basic set and the newer ones are much nicer, more of a slightly darker red - they look much better on the bass, but the pic was taken with the older original strings. To me, the coating is also better and lasts much longer. You can see the coating was coming off below...

30 years back I got a set of Rotosound black nylons for £5.Sounded great on my P bass.

Fast forward to now and I still use a set, this time on a alpine white Dean short scale, the heavier gauge
improves the tone IMO.

There's Rotosound Nexus on a couple of others and La Bella whites on a fretless.Nexus hold their coating and tone well,
the LBs are on a trial basis.

One black nylon I really like is Status Hot Wire. First tried them 6 months back and I'm really impressed, unlike the Rotos
they're standard gauge and again sound great. Yes they're on a P bass,I'm a creature of habit.
