Hi All,

Don't know about Red Rocks, that's a tricky one...but their trussing is still pretty high, so we should be able to get at least some of our production in there. As far as South America, I'm not sure what we're able or not able to take down there; that's a bit of a trick I suppose. Freight is more expensive than ever these days.

Best,
JMJ
Thanks, Justin! Have fun out on the road with NIN!!!

Justin man.. what a score here! ill be seeing you guys.. ill keep an eye out on your tone and playing.. i know i will be in for a great show!.. one question may sound random but who cares.. lol... what strings are you using and what gauge are they on the Geddy? and or Jag's

That whole band is going to be terrific. Robin Finck's back, the great Josh Freese on drums, and JMJ on everything but the kitchen sink. Plus Trent is pretty OK his own self ;)

50-105? Wow, bring the pain! You are more of a man than I, sir.

Dude, I'm really excited for you. It sounds like it will be mind-bogglingly huge and a lot of fun, plus it's so completely different from the stuff you've done in the past. But we've all got a dark side, and now you've got a huge forum to explore that side for a change. Nice!

Hi Justin, always been huge fans of both you and NIN so this is really a dream come true. :hyper:

I'm planning on attending more than one show this tour... I've got tickets for the Toronto show and I'm thinking of going to Worcester or East Rutherford. Although, I wonder if the setlist will be that much different from one night to the other. I know you've said Trent wants to be able to change sets as he pleases, but I also know how difficult it is to radically change it every night with a show that's so production heavy. As the tour's about to start, do you still think the sets will vary a lot?

And except for the new stuff, do you think we can expect old songs that have never been played live before?

Thanks man, and good luck with everything, can't wait to see you guys!

JMJ - epic win on your work; I think TR has the tightest band ever this time around, and you and Robin are meshing really well together.

Being a long-time guitarist that is pretty much switching to bass full time, I was surprised to hear some of the parts on The Slip that I thought were played on the high bass strings being covered by Robin. How did the band (you, or TR, who I imagine has some very specific directions) decide how to divide up the parts, how to arrange the doubling and interlocking parts, that kind of stuff?

Is there going to be a good mix of old and new material, or is it mostly going to be stuff from With Teeth/Year Zero/Ghosts/The Slip?
Do rock bands actually not perform their older hits and popular album cuts anymore? I thought that was a 70's art hippie tortured artist thing.

JimmyM, Thanks! And we contemplated playing NO hits, but it's probably just too unfair. ;-)

Valerus, thank you!

Ash 512: I'm so stoked to hear this "confluence" of things will be coming together for you, I'll try and live up to the expectations of greatness. :-) Anyway, it's too early for me to say exactly how much the sets might change night-to-night. We've got to find our way at first; but suffice to say it won't remain completely static. I could see as few as three and as many as ten songs changing night to night, but who knows. Just too early, we have to learn as we go. There may very well be material NIN has never done live before, but I just don't know because I'm not exactly sure when something has been done or not.

tekkaman42: A valid question. Sometimes it would be random, but mostly doling out parts has to do with us all seeing what each of us gravitates towards, and/or getting to know each of our sonic capabilities to the extent where Robin, Trent or I can look at each other and say "nah, this part is more your domain, why don't you go for it?".

Ely: old and new material, well-mixed for sure.

Hello_ets: I think at this point I need to keep a lid on NIN developments, set lists, production details, future schedules, etc. I am in danger of revealing too much in this thread, particularly if I answer questions with such specificity.

And, though it's not a bad thing and I mean no disrespect, I can deduce from the quantity of your posts (2) and duration of your TalkBass profile (3 days) that your motivations are more NIN-oriented, rather than talking about bass...yes? ;)

Best,
JMJ

Not to mention the s/n has ETS (Echoing The Sound, a NIN fan board) in it. You'll likely get more posts from ETS members. I'm glad you're so open with your fans and answer questions that you're safe to answer.
Wish I had a question for you that you'd be able to answer, but everything I'd like to ask you wouldn't be able to tell me.
Good luck on the tour, I'll see you in Cleveland.

i never thought i'd be into NIN but i watched the video on the site.. thought it was cool.. then watched the second.. thought that was cool... which eventually led me to downloading the slip.. which im doing right now!! The gig sounds and looks so much fun to play.. I envy you!

If NIN are comingto the UK at some point I've got to check it out.

Anyone is welcome here, of course. It's only that my hands are tied on certain responses; that's all I'm trying to illustrate.

In Pemberton, B.C. right now for the first gig of the tour....a beautiful sight.

attackbass: I hope we make it your way!

Best,
JMJ
