If you are in West LA, why not drive to Houston? It has a metro area of about six million, there must be some good must c shops there.

I'm glad someone else noticed that lol.
But on the topic of Houston, I still don't see an 11-12 hour round trip to try out a bass as a viable option and the Perfect Bass closed so there's that.
Tell that to all the others recommending as wellThe OP hasn't been on in three years...
Lots of people take road trips to check out gear. Plan ahead and make a weekend out of it.
I'll stop in places if I happen to be in the area. Just last week I was in Montreal on business and made a point to check out Invalid Link Removed. Great shop. Great basses. Great people.
To plan more than a few hours trip to spend some time on a bass is just not reasonable in my eyes when I could commit the couple/few hundred dollars (once fuel and lodging is spent) of that trip towards a custom from a builder that I don't need to try out first. I'm not knocking anyone who does. It's just not for me.
Your money and your time, good luck with your search.![]()
There's hardly a wrong way to spend money in the search, just relative preferred ways! But does the search truly ever end? Or just pause?
I'm still thrilled with my Better MouseTrap bass and will be commissioning another later this year. One thing I do need to try out are pickups, but those are easily swapped if I don't like them.![]()
I didn't say you were doing anything wrong. I acknowledged that you do it your way.
