Personally, I like contrast. Solid color paint jobs require textured pickguards, tort or otherwise. Patterned paint jobs, and this includes natural grain, require plain pickguards. Colors should work in a classical sense. That being said, red tort on black is perfect, IMO. I don't really care for black on black or white on black unless there's some kind of shimmer, or whatever, on the PG. But on a patterned body, I'd never put any kind of textured PG on there. And natural grain is almost better without a PG entirely.

But, whatever. It's whatever speaks to you. Like, for example, that red tort on olive body? Ew. Really, EW! But, hey, that's just me. I have dark orange tort on black (and it usually just looks red, anyway) and I'm happy. Can't we all just get along?

If you don't like it, that's totally cool, despite what some may say. Why do you feel the need to be converted? Why should what any of us like affect your opinion? If you hate 2 of my basses, I have no problem with that whatsoever!

Oh no, it's obvious your viewpoint is based on sense and reason. I'm getting rid of all of mine today. Who else is with me ?
Sweet. Glad I could help.
Also, if you have green shag carpet, wood paneling, yellow\orange\or avocado colored appliances, a perm, a powder blue suit, or anything tie dyed you may want to ditch those as well. It being the 21st century and all.

I detest tort.

I've hated it ever since I first saw the sausage coloured atrocity. I've hated it before knowing hating it was a thing.

What is that thing??? It looks like a pepperoni!

Its magnanimous ugliness is further exploited when put on a sunburst bass.

Disgusting. An ugly colour and an ugly pickguard. Brilliant.

Sunburst and tort. Boy, have I NEVER seen that before.

Admit it. SBNT is overused. I don't care if it's classic (besides, the real classic is honeyburst with a white pickguard). Sometimes the ancients get it wrong, like communism.
There are so many people doing the SBNT combination, it takes off any personal aspect of your bass. It's simply too common.

But I digress.

I've recently been seeing tort on good combinations on the "Paging all members of the Order of the Tort" thread by @BusyFingers. Such as this one:View attachment 1044027
And of course, black with tort:

This thread might have changed me to what I might call a tort agnostic.

Now I am weak. I challenge you, tort lovers, to make me like tort. Show me everything you got.

(Don't try your luck with SBNT, I still hate it).
Remain strong, sir! Tort pickguards are despicable, and you were right to hate them. There is not one bass on here that wouldn't look better with a different pickguard. And why do they even call it tort, I've never seen a tortoise that looked like that, have you?:eyebrow:
