Converting cubase files to MP3

Hi

I just got Cubase LE, and I'm not at all familiar with the program, or any other recording/mixing program for that matter.
How do I convert my cubase projects to MP3?

You can export/mixdown as an mp3 with Cubase. I'm using SX 2.0.

Bear in mind the conversions are limited to I believe 20 without buying a $10 patch to enable unlimited.

I did a bunch exporting as..............wma or some other option and then used an external program to convert to .mp3.

That got old so I ponied up for the patch. Be aware it is bought in Germany and my credit card company called to confirm the charge. as it looks possibly fradulent. All these purchases in SoCal then suddenly one in Germany raises a red flag.

Kinda comforting in a way so I didn't mind.

WMA and MP3 are both lossy codecs, i.e. they work by discarding data they think you won't notice. By converting WMA files to MP3 you are unnecessarily going through this twice. You'd be better off mixing your project down as an uncompressed file, e.g. WAV and then converting that to MP3.

But for the stone simple answer to your question: File -> Export, then select .mp3 on the drop down list and "Stereo Interleaved".

It has been a while since I exported anything.

Is there some advantage of going .WAV out of Cubase then to .mp3 with another program as opposed to .mp3 straight from Cubase Gary?

Note that he said .wma, not .wav. There's really no advantage to doing an .mp3 conversion out of Cubase, he was just saying that it's redudant and probably not a good idea to go from one lossy format (.wma) to another (.mp3).

open cubase, import the audio file into a new project, and hit export as MP3,

or just export the current project file you're workin on as an audio file, then under the menu it gives you, select the MP3 option (there's also WAV, WMA, etc) and hit save/ export/ whatever it is. You can do this unlimited times in LE.

I think so, but i guess it depends on the bit rate, they both have choices. either way going wma to mp3 is certainly going to result in a lower quality file than going straight to mp3 or wav to mp3. even if wma is better, its no .wav!
