Converting from Rock and Metal to Jazz

I've been listening to the Rippingtons since they started out, just never got into playing it. I've also been a huge Stanley Clarke fan for about 30 years. Love his style, but I've always played rock, metal and country

Clarke is sort of on the fusion fringe of jazz - you would not want to emulate his in-yer-face virtuosity in most jazz ensembles, but if you've been a fan this long, you've at least got some idea of jazz bass flow that's deep down in your brain by now. That's a really good thing. Do you have access to a fretless? I have one that I rarely play, but when I do, somehow the mwahness of it all helps me find legato jazz lines more naturally.
