Sorry but I've got to +1 THand here. That Roscoe is gorgeous but it costs the same as a used car or a decent installment in a college fund. Unless you're loaded, it's a fantasy. Face it guys, if it weren't for our wives, a lot of us would be eating canned beans and ramen noodles living out of the back end of a station wagon with seventeen basses in the back seat. Thank her for the reality check.

(a)You're a student working full time in a recession and you want to drop OVER $4,000 on a bass?

(b) It's Christmas and there are tons of needy kids out there and your wife who might like a vacation, some jewelry, new computer, etc. and you want to spend OVER $4,000 on YOURSELF for a bass? Even if you already dropped a bunch of money on her already, how can you spend that kind of money on yourself when you help LOTS of people? And if you don't have the money... see (a)

My wife is supportive. She intended to be a bassist herself until she broke her wrist and never fully recovered. She understands my needs. But we have very honest deal: For each more expensive item I buy for my needs, I am expected to give her the same amount of money to satisfy her needs, and the family welfare is not to suffer. Don't you think it is an honest deal?

It amazes me how people on these forums can be so judgemental. Yeah, I'm a student, but I'm also a grownup. You're not talking to some egotistical 20 year old that can't see past the end of his nose. I never said that I didn't have the money, see my OP. Just so you know, it wouldn't be 4K. OK. It's not like I want to hoard a bunch of basses. The Warwick would be sold and the money would put toward the Roscoe. Go flame somewhere else.

thats a pretty good, helps you decide how bad you want something and you also don't feel like you are trapped. Big thing there is not hurting the family budget, seems like a reasonable deal to me :)

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, Greg has a great selection and I have tried several. That's why I was so surprised when I picked this one up and played it. This one just spoke to me.

Does the wife like Harry Potter? I find that whenever I want something that will meet resistance from my fiance if I make a Harry Potter analogy I can get what I want.

"Harry Potter had a pretty good broomstick, but then he got a firebolt and was even better at Quidditch because he had a better broom even though his first one was pretty good."

"In Harry Potter the wizards would pick up the wand that was designed for them and they would know it was the one they needed. This is my wand."

"Those kids can't defeat the bad guy without presents from the old gay guy so I need more basses..." etc :D

That's the key.

Hopefully, you(OP) have a shared and sincere desire to do what is best for your family first with your wife. Most of the biggest influences on me manage to "get by" ;) with just a Fender or Ibanez, and I doubt they are touring and gigging their asses off to spend more on gear. They are trying to provide for their families too.

You say you aren't loaded or gigging, and I take that, along with the fact that you posted a thread about it and conclude that now is probably not the best time for you. Perhaps you would be better to have it as a goal that you and your wife could work towards together, along with her goals and providing for the future?

IMHO, if you could really afford it right now, there wouldn't be an issue. There is a big difference (and sometimes a blurry line) between "want" and "need". On the positive side, you now know what you want, so you know what to work towards.
