The story on this guy, Bob Corritore…
First photo, one I took of him in a college dorm room, decades ago. He was from Chicago, and deeply immersed in the blues, having witnessed his hometown heritage up close. It was well past the hippie era infatuation with the genre, not so trendy anymore, and I had had enough of the watered down British thing which had run its course anyway. While I had started doing my homework on the obvious Chess stuff, he deepened my knowledge even further, and turned me on to this new label, Alligator, and their unlikely star, Hound Dog Taylor. We'd jam a bit with a guitarist who was in a similar situation as me, but we all eventually
went our separate ways. I stayed in touch with the guitarist for about 10 years.

Some time ago I come to find that not only was Bob was still at it, but was the proprietor of a blues focused club in Phoenix, The Rhythm Room, and toured/recorded with an older Chicago guitarist, John Primer, who had played with Muddy Waters and other notables. A local(Los Angeles)blues event promoter brought them in for a weekend of gigs, so I went to the one closest to me(second photo). Over 40 years had lapsed since I'd seen him…I walked up on a break, gave him that first photo, reintroduced myself, and it blew his mind. We chatted a bit, caught up, got the sad news that the guitarist had died of cancer. Life goes on.

That story made my morning, super cool!

From Rob Stoner's FB page:
"Soundcheck for 9/10/75 taping of PBS "Tribute to John Hammond" show.
Our only experience playing with Bob was a few nights of recording, so this was a paid audition to see if we could cut it as his live backup band on the fly.
There was no rehearsal, just a three minute soundcheck.
Apparently BD was pleased with the result because he hired this ensemble as the core of the RTR band a few weeks later."

About six weeks later, the first Rolling Thunder Revue performance, Oct 30th, 1975, Dylan & Stoner.
