I never got to see the band in its original form, but I saw two of the later versions. First in 2013--no Jerry, of course, and Neville had just left, but the other five (including Roddy) were still on board and they were great. It’s great that he’s still out there, in spite of the fact that he wasn’t the front man or primary writer back in the day(and I did see the reconstituted edition of the band a few years ago before Terry Hall’s unfortunate passing). Decent sized appreciative club crowd, all sorts of ages. It’s similar to the situation that I chronicled last month with Tony Valentino, guitarist for The Standells; not the main guy, but he brought the heritage. Next on the schedule, Richard Thompson, then the Lemon Twigs.
