the guy who named the Wrecking Crew; drummer, Hal Blaine's 1946 Zildjian trans stamp paper thin cymbals which have been heard on innumerable hits since the late '50s.
16" crash to his left
17" sizzle to his right with one rivet (a set screw)
22" medium heavy ride (he used a rasp on the hole so it could be angled on straight cymbal stands)
on occasion, he used a 9" choke cymbal "for old timey type music"
for many years he used 14" hi-hats, but in the later 70s on used 12" hi-hats. Hal - ''not only for the disco sound, but for some of the highs that are prevalent in a lot of the commercials I do."
he bought them at age 17, they went everywhere with him and were the last things he parted with. that sound was part of him.
