I saw Elvis Costello and his excellent band the Imposters the other night. The theme of this tour is 1977-86, but he played around with the arrangements of a number of songs. Steve Nieve and Pete Thomas are still on keys and drums, respectively, as they have been since 1977 (well, except for a couple of Elvis solo periods). Davey Faragher has been on bass since 2002, and while he isn't Bruce Thomas (who is?), he's very good and also provides strong backup vocals. Charlie Sexton has played second guitar the past couple of tours, adding some cool stuff (as expected).

my intro to seeing Sabbath in the flesh, after hearing them under my pillow on underground FM radio station KUSC mentioning their upcoming shows. Alice Cooper were co-billed but no-showed, that sucked, but nothing could prepare you for what these guys brought onstage. life changing.

the blue lasers used for effect in the egg chamber scene of the 1979 film Alien were borrowed from The Who while Alien was being filmed at Shepperton Studios on a neighboring soundstage. Production Designer Roger Christian with Art Director Les Dilley saw the band's innovative uses to create dynamic visuals and the lasers were lent to Director Ridley Scott to add complexity.
