The Jeffersons star Sherman Hemsley had a secret LSD lab and recorded an album with YES singer Jon Anderson stemming from accounts by Gong founder Daevid Allen who visited Hemsley's home in the late 1970s describing Hemsley as a "very personable, charming guy" who was surrounded by "really crazy people" in a surreal scene that included a sign on the front door that read, "Don't answer the door because it might be the man". the LSD laboratory in the basement was run by two Puerto Rican guys with crack/freebase depots on every floor, plus a Flying Teapot room (referencing a Gong album) where the band's music played on a loop. Hemsley was an big fan of psychedelic progressive rock and a jazz keyboardist who released an R&B album called Dance in 1992. Hemsley collaborated with YES singer Jon Anderson on a rock opera project called Festival of Dreams in the late 1990s. Hemsley wrote the lyrics for the project, which was about the "spiritual qualities of the number 7", however, the album was never officially released.

That's crazy. It was such a weirdo instrument. I think it's supposed to be the first ever with active electronics? (Maybe I'm misremembering.) But features like the built-in EQ often were bad or went bad. That's probably why everything's ripped out of that bass in favor of just the bridge pickup.

They have a history of doing small runs of unlikely, overlooked, or esoteric models. Their quality upgrades of certain wacky Teisco guitars/basses weren’t too bad, their Peter Hook Shergold knock-offs were cool, and I’d be interested in their medium scale Dan Armstrong-derived ‘London Bass’(originally used by Bill Wyman and Jack Bruce)if it weren’t for the price tag. Their take on Yamaha’s SG(as used by John McGeoch of Magazine, Siouxie, and PIL)looks sweet.

the hidden feature in this candid shot is the unheralded Cindy Smith-Dunaway, sitting with bassist DD, who designed the band's stage attire from their earliest days and sparked the entire early '70s glam / proto punk visual scene out of London along with a lone Stooges show. Johnny Rotten's mom was a massive AC fan and she was far from alone. a book might be in the works on Cindy's importance but she's so modest it would amount to a paragraph if left to her.
