I wish I could remember. There was a place we always referred to as Mabel's. Except I don't think Mabel's name was actually above the door. She was the bartender. We remembered her because she was a total doll with a name that sounded like she should be a grandmother.The name above the door was a long phrase with things that didn't go together, like Gertrude's Knitting Supplies and Chainsaw Repair. But I'm not strongly confident that that was it.
I liked Fatso's Burgers and Blues. My wife and I talked for the first time at their door. They are part of the offices for a Christian radio station, now.
NicksSwingingDoorBarHotSandwiches was a good name because it was all one word. They didn't mean it to be originally. But their sign was just a leeeeeeeetle too narrow to have spaces in between all the words.

I thought The Hell House was a cool name for a place. It wasn't even a real venue but an off campus fraternity house that I played at A LOT for an entire school year. Some of the craziest things I have ever seen I saw at that house.
Years ago, here in Pasadena CA, played 2 clubs that were practically next door to each other;
'The County Jail' & 'Loch Ness Monster'
The County Jail was in the basement of a brick commercial building, now boarded up.
The Loch Ness was at the intersection of 2 back alleys and hard as hell to find.
Even today it doesn't show up on Google maps yet the place was always packed.

A total dump bar in New Orleans called The Morgue. It turns out that it was the site of the actual original morgue for the parish.
They said the place where they keep the cold ones in the back was where they used to keep the 'cold ones', in the back.

"The Smell", in LA. That one was pretty hard to find, too--they had no sign out front, and the only indication that it was a club was the line of punk rockers queued at the door.
The Elbow Room in Rhienlander Wi. The stage was a bump-out from the wall behind the bar.
Lucifer's in West Allis. They had a column just off center ringgit at the front of the stage.
The Counselor's in Greenfield. It was owned by a group of lawyers.
Fuzzy Thurston's Left Guard. That was his position for the Packers in the first two Super Bowls.

Below Zero - It was actually boiling hot in there!! Underground with no ventilation!
Aunt Mary's Garage - A guy actually used to hold concerts in his Aunt's garage, he then moved to a 1000 person capacity venue and kept the same name.
The Cigarette Pack - This was a tiny place, and always full of smoke, the name fitted quite well!
Alfred's Bike Bar - The funny thing about this was not the name, but the fact that it was at the top of about 100 steps in a pedestrian zone!
I'm sure there are more that I forget!!
