CopilotFX Cubic!!!

One thing I wished the OC-2 could do was a hard gate on it's own output. My thought was then you wouldn't necessarily need a gated fuzz specifically to get that choppy, clean synthy fuzz. Though without a gated fuzz you'd then get hiss/noise bleed between notes. But if the synthy octave could gate internally it'd open up a lot more options. So talk him into considering a gate knob added to the box that gates off the input envelope but physically gates the octave output as opposed to input to the octave. At least that was my thought.

Great idea, I will definitely bring this to his attention. Thanks, gastric!

For realz? Any clips of a modded (and louder) OC-2, Mr. Bert?

ok guys, sorry for being that late. i already posted that mod some time ago in another thread. it really isn't that spectacular. the sound stays the same for my ears. i did the soundclips in this thread with my "modded" oc-2:

clips on soundcloud

i have mounted my oc-2 fix on my board so i can't take pics at the moment. but i found this oc-2 Link Removed where you can see the resistors i'm talking about.

it's the 100kΩ next to the pots labeled "direct", "oct-1", "oct-2". depends of which pot you want to disable. it's just that these resistors are permanetely in the signal chain and reduce volume, even if you have dialed the pots fully ccw. if you take the resistors out (you just need to desolder one pin), you can't use the pots but the signal is louder.

it was not my original idea ( i'm not a technician ;)), a friend suggested this little experiment, and it worked fine. on 12 o'clock (on the oct-1 pot) i now have the same gain as before, on 3 o'clock unity gain (compared to the bypassed signal) and even could boost my signal. the other knobs won't work any more...

cheers!

So, I've had a few more days to test this guy out. First off, the voicing of the octave and the feel when playing are excellent. The clean octave (no filter or ???) sounds a little like the bass octave setting on my line 6 M5. Then, as you add the filtering or clipping, you can get a lot of different textures and levels of distortion. I am a fan of pedals that have controls that are responsive to each other, and I feel like there is a lot of that going in here between the two tone shaping controls. And a big plus is that it plays very well with all of my other pedals. I'm gonna wait to do a video and more clips until I get the revised version later this month.

I can confidently say that, between this and something else that is on the way, I can replace both of my OC2's in a short period of time and not feel bad about it. I don't think I'll sell them, but I can put them away...just in case...

Stersz, as always - NICE ClIPS!!

how does it track below the low A, 5th fret E String? Hard to tell from the clips. Any thoughts? Is it equal to or better than the OC-2?

Thanks!!!

I can get it to do the A flat without jumping between octaves, but it takes some serious coaxing. In this range, the OC2 is a little better, but this is just the prototype and he told me he was tweaking it. I'll wait until I get the revised one to say for sure.

the 2nd proto was shipped today. dont know if it went out (airport) due we're on storm watch hi Irene. i've been lurking this thread, so thanks to all of you who post it.

The gate idea: it can be done i'll have to do it in a larger case, i have been tempted to do a 8/9 knobber cubic so i'll have to save that idea when i decide to do the cubic supreme.

The balancing/full wet signal. There's a trade off with full wet the way is build to fit in the case and have the exp jack option and have the clean signal. I moved things a bit so it will get more wet.

I think the key is using the exp because it adds so much, like playing a note and then blending the octave signal. Also cranking the filter and unlabeled knob provides this interesting pseudo fuzzy filterish sounds, using the exp and delay can produce some industrial/electronica droney sound, a friend who was testing the 2nd prototype the sound was very Orgy (the band or perhaps the act in a sonic way)

DHL tracking says the new Cubic proto is with the delivery courier today!!! That means 3 days from the Dominican Republic to Pittsburgh, with a hurricane movin along the East Coast. I think I just found my new favorite delivery service.

So, I am extra excited that it is arriving today because my old old band is having a one off reunion show at a festival this weekend and I will have a chance to use it live. There will be hippie tapers there, I'm sure, so I will try to dig a copy up and post some live samples. Although, this band hasn't played together in 2 years and a couple guy have to fly in from various places around the country, so no chance of a dedicated rehearsal. What I'm getting at is, if we sound like $h!+, I wont be posting live examples!!! Either way, I'm gonna do some updated sound samples, and if Mr. Autopilot likey, then I will do a in-depth video as well.

Oh yeah, I would be into a "supreme" version of this pedal with lot's of cool bells and whistles.
