CopilotFX Cubic!!!

any idea when Cubic is gonna be available? can I trade MXR BOD already or not? :-)

Shouldn't be long, now! I got the 2nd proto on thursday and it is tweaked very nicely from the first. I had a chance to use it on my gig friday night, but Saturday didn't work out because it is hard to sneak a synthy octave in on a country gig.

I am working on finishing the video and some more soundclips and I will accompany that with a full review. I will say I am completely in love with this octave pedal and very happy about the changes that were made.

Ok, so I used the Cubic a couple times Friday night at a gig. One time was for straight clean octave blended 50/50 with the clean to accompany keyboard and guitar solos. The next time was with a very fuzzy sounding octave paired with an envelope filter. It can definitely do the sub-octave fuzz nicely, and it sounds great through a filter. The last time was with the expression pedal doing long sweeps on lpf. The fact that it sounds so good with a filter makes me like the idea of a gate even more. At one point my guitar player leaned over to me and said it sounded bad-@$$.

In this little video, I am basically just running through some of the settings I found be useful. At the end I turn on the Xerograph Deluxe to demonstrate how it sounds with a filter. I will do a video with the expression pedal and a direct comparison with a Boss OC-2 when I get the final version. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Freq: 12:30
No clean

For the sweep section:

fast, 4 pole, up sweep
Res: 11:00
Sense: off
Freq: 11:00
No clean blend

Wolfie, how'd you know my nickname? I've been called that since high school!

option 2: clairvoyance

option 3:Invalid Link Removed

on a somewhat serious note... is it really your nickname?

Yup, my friends started calling me Sterl the Pearl in high school (after the basketball player Earl the Pearl) and it has stuck with me since! I don't know why because I am no good at basketball, but I guess it rhymed so it was cool!

Very impressive sounding octave pedal. It's stable and different enough from my OC-2 to also own it. I'm disappointed that it can't do octave only. I'll probably wait to see if he does a version down the road that can do that.

The sound with the fuzz and the low pass filter with this pedal is off the charts.

The last time I spoke to Adam we discussed having the expression control the ??? knob and removing the blend so it can go 100% wet. I don't know if this is in the plans for the final version be he agreed that 100% wet is important to a lot of people.

Some answers:

The pedal will be green, the one in the video isnt because is a prototype.

-100% wet: I decided to have a balanced blend because i always wanted to be able to control with external source (in this case a expression pedal, it isnt cv because there are less people into cv than exp), so in order to achieve that, i had to limitate myself to common exp values, and from that work the design of the blend. Because i thought some people will found frustrating that when they plug a exp the range of the blend sweep wasnt equal to the sweep without the exp.The stock cubic will have the exp jack to control the blend, the option to control the ??? will be upon request.

There are plans to build a larger cubic (supreme version) with more blending options to allow 100% wet and the idea of having a gate at the output and be capable of more crazyness. But I dont know how soon it will be, i'm working on 3 new designs and other stuff that i cant say for sure how soon, but it will be larger like 2 cubics side by side due i'm already have 8 knobs on the drawing board, and 2 exp jacks.

For those who didnt know the cubic as it is was an accident, i designed for guitar early 2010 (there are some info in the ilf copilot forum) but i couldnt get to track the upper register properly and i trow it away. One day i was looking at the prototype, because i was looking for some parts to built another pedal prototype and before i dismantled i played a bit and noticed how well was tracking the lower notes and remenbered how much the oc2 was being love it by bassist, so i decided to re-do it and here we are.

well, screw the guitar players, octavers are for bassists.

could it be possible to order Cubic without expression but with 100% wet available?

my thoughts exactly. I love pedals that utilize an expression pedal as much as the next guy (and probably more than most) but an analog octave pedal is something I'd prefer not to use an expression pedal with (takes up space solely to leave it in one position). Currently when creating synthy sounds the oc-2 is the layer of primer paint, it's not there to be fancy but be the foundation all of the other synth textures adhere to. That's not to say more ways to diversify the octaves sound and more tonal control over the octave isn't desired... and I think you've created that- but at least having the option to order a pedal that doesn't need an expression pedal to dial out the dry is pretty important imo. So is the green :) good choice!

Absolutely.
