Cort is going hard in the paint these days

No corners being cut on Corts. My entire gigging stable is all Cort:

I refinished them for some pop; not a huge fan of the woodgrain look. Their new stuff is amazing. If they'd just build the B5FL I need two of, my bass purchasing days would be over.

I would also take a fretless A5 Ultra Ash as a more than acceptable alternative. Those basses are something else.

There you can see it, they cut the corner on the weight, there's not enough of it :roflmao:

Yep - they seem to be shorting us a good 2-3lbs by most 5-string standards. Sketchy.

Joking aside - I'm digging the spoke truss wheel & the roasted neck w/black blocks just looks gorgeous against that poplar burl body. I prefer passive basses, but if I ever need an active, I'm gonna have to remember to give this one a serious look.

It does have a passive switch so it's not like you have to use the active electronics...

It is. And I love people that don't care, don't wanna know, don't have anything crappy to say about what anyone else is doing, they're just happy and a bass is a bass and they just play it. I envy them because I need to know what makes everything tick and analyze everything to death. The last thing I would do is kill their joy.
But when someone is being judgy or arrogant, I have to confess,....I get a weird enjoyment out of popping their balloon.
Like telling "made in 'murica" blowhards that their product is 85% Chinese parts and assembled in Mexico. I love people that get judgy about hunting as they're shoving a burger in their hole. I love telling them how beef cattle live and how mother cows cry and moan for their babies for days when they're taken away to be hacked into veal. I love telling people like that what's in their hotdog after they've eaten half of it.
Same with people that conflate overpaying for a cookie cutter bass with being "high quality" and then looking down their nose at anything less expensive or made overseas from another brand.
They can cover their ears and go NA NA NA NA all they want. I'm still peeing in their soup.
What gets me is someone will be down on brand 'xyz' and yet praise brand 'abc' even though both are made by Cort and in many cases be the same 'tier'.

I'd see the same thing when many basses from different brands were coming out of the 'World' factory in South Korea in the 00's. All based on the name on the headstock and not knowing the basses they were comparing in many instances were made at the same location.

I get what you are saying, but at the same time, that pickguard is actually going to protect the beautiful top. If it wasn't there your plucking hand is going to wear through the finish eventually. I feel like this is especially more common with satin or oil finishes like this bass compared to a thick gloss poly finish. I've seen a good number of ibanez basses with the body all worn where the player rests their plucking hand.

My main bass for a few decades was a mahogany-bodied fiver finished with wiping varnish. It still looks pretty good, except where my plucking hand intersects the body and p'up. In my case, a pick guard would only have to have surrounded one side of the neck pickup, and anything larger would have been totally unnecessary.

Some of the following may need to be fact checked or at least updated if things changed)
Samick makes the most instruments and the most for other companies.
Cort is #2.
And a Chinese company called WMI(?) Is #3.
Ibanez doesn't even have a manufacturing facility. They have Cort build all their instruments.
Ibanez has most of their basses made by Cort in Indonesia previously South Korea.

They also have a source in China, they have a custom shop in the good ol' USA and use Fugijen Gakki for the 'Prestige' series.

They've also used Samick and Peerless in the past among others.

I actually saw the exact thing happen a few years ago on some Facebook group. Someone was ripping on Ibanez while praising another brand (can't remember which one) when they were made at the EXACT same place xD

Anyway, the bass OP posted looked so sweet I bought it myself. I'll post about it when it makes its way across the ocean to my house.

Sheeeit - you bought that one. I'm very curious to hear the review
For the record I recently got to spend some time on a Cort Rithimic Jeff Berlin 4-string. I don't think I've ever felt a faster neck. If I had a use for 4-strings (I'm strictly a 5-string guys now and don't want to debate it) I'd own it.

Not to be an enabler, but sometimes I just can't help myself, after all this is TB, they do, ahem, make a 5-string too!:hyper:

It's a great time to be a musician. So much inexpensive quality gear out there.

A bass is some wood, glue, and a few screws. Fire up a CNC machine and you can crank them out fairly quickly. When you look at the parts that make up a bass, once your initial investment for the machines is paid for, you have very little cost in making one.

In today's market, there is really no reason for paying multiple thousands of dollars to get a high quality instrument. Basses have become very much like watches. You can get a $20 Casio that keeps excellent time and works as expected, or you can buy a $30,000 watch. But both indicate the same time. One just makes you feel more "special".

Beautiful. No questions. Quality components and expert craftmanship in a modern design. Dig the wheel at neck base, too. No switches on sight: elegant. Now, if they would only offer the bass with the pickguard and screws apart, so one would decide if making those holes on thet highly figured top or not...
