I agree on the fact that it’s difficult to tell other people what they should pay attention to, when listening to music, in order for them to like that music .. the whole process is clearly highly subjective .. probably the OP just wanted other users to start a chat about Jaco Pastorius and his role in the development and affirmation of the electric bass as an instrument per se .. in my opinion, in this regard, Jaco occupies one of highest places .. it’s a pity that his career and life ended in the way they ended as he could have gifted us with other beautiful tunes although he probably wasn’t a literate of the instrument and a few people may really know which his actual level of formal music education was (Jaco claimed to have learnt how to arrange for big-bands during his early years, with the CC Riders) ... however I’d prefer having him in my band (if I had a band, of course, which I don’t .. just hypothetical scenario) rather than many of the contemporary, so-called masters of the instrument as I still have to listen to an album gem, such as “Jaco”, recently recorded by them ...
