Covers that are pretty awesome.

Transplanted from the other thread...

If we are discussing covers we like, I need go no farther than (love 'em or hate 'em) The Grateful Dead. They played lots of covers, but when they played them, they were Dead tunes. Some of my faves: When I Paint My Masterpiece, The Weight, Walk Me Out in the Morning Dew, Not Fade Away, Big River, Around and Around, Man Smart Woman Smarter, Goin' Down the Road Feelin' Bad, Little Red Rooster, and Big Boss Man.

I could post a bunch of metal covers I love, but I wanted to do something a bit different from a band that gets surprisingly little love here (especially with their awesome bassist Eric Wilson), but has been one of my favorites since I was but a wee laddy.

Maybe its all the memories and nostalgia I have tied to this song, like sitting in class with one earbud in my ear and the other in the ear of the first beautiful girl to ever give me attention, but the whole 40oz To Freedom album just puts me in my happy place, and I think of her every time I hear it. :)

Best cover ever

Yes _ Every Little Thing , I have won SO many bets with this song, NOBODY but NOBODY ever guesses that it is Yes. Not many know that it is a Beatles song either.

That is a great Blindfold Test song...Yes also did a nice job with Richie Havens' "No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed" (from Time & A Word). They did covers by The Beatles, The Byrds, Stephen Stills, etc on those early Peter Banks albums.

Deep Purple's earliest albums also had similar cover-type tunes (Beatles, Motown, Ike/Tina, etc).
"Hush" is a Joe South cover.

A lot of Beatles' tunes get better...
:)

"She's A Woman"- Jeff Beck (Blow By Blow)
"Hey Jude"- Wilson Pickett (Hey Jude w/ the Muscle Shoals guys + Duane Allman)
"Got To Get You Into My Life"- EW&F
"We Can Work It Out"- Chaka Khan (Whatcha Gonna Do For Me w/ a great synth bass part by Greg Phillinganes)
"The Long & Winding Road"- Aretha Franklin (Young, Gifted and Black w/ Chuck Rainey on bass)

One time at a Of Montreal show after their last song the lights went black and everybody started leaving and then the band played "Thriller" from the beginning of the album. Most people were already making their way out the door. I was already outside and thought the soundman had cued up MJ. Either way it was kinda funny and they pulled it off too.
