Covers that really, REALLY suck

Speaking of updating lyrics, I would love to cover the Divinyls' biggest hit and change the most important lyric in the hook to "when I touch you I think about myself". Much less old-fashioned and more modern, isn't it?

Am I joking about this?

I hope so! I can't see a man singing that song, and the same is true of a lot of other Divinyls' songs as well. Just wouldn't work - they're just too "female" (if you know what I mean). If you're really ambititious, you could always try "All The Boys In Town". ;)

I seriously do plan to talk one of my female singers into both "I Touch Myself" and "Boys In Town". Great songs.

And I do really want to change those lyrics, but only on the last repeat of the hook, and see if anybody catches it. It wasn't really my idea, though. There's a scene in an old Roger Corman movie called "The Undead" where a "psychical researcher" is hypnotizing a prostitute, and says "when I touch you..." In the MST3K version, one of the guys adds "...I think about myself".

Thinking about yourself is sooooo much more 21st century than thinking about anybody else.

Yeah, you should try "Love School" and "Pleasure And Pain" as well, a couple of my favourites. Not sure about changing the lyrics though; seems almost sacrilegious to me. ;)

Anything by Sixpence None The Richer. Their cover of There She Goes by the Las was IMO unlistenable. That whole female-singer-whisper-whine-sing thing makes me want to stick an icepick in my ear (why do female singers sing like that?? You are not four years old - sing damn it!) They did another cover too that had some heavy radio play around here which my mind has thankfully repressed.

And your non-sucking 1% would be.....?

Joe Cocker's "I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS"?....:p
