Covers that really, REALLY suck

I'll take post-blackjack Bolton any day. Pretty easy to see why that 'band' failed. Some of the worst songs I've every heard.

Michael Bolton is a fine singer and a brilliant songwriter, at least according to my Grandmother. Of course she's 93, nearly deaf, and a few sandwiches short of a picnic - she thinks The Beatles is some sort of hairstyle, and rock & roll is a fad, just like jazz.
Really over the edge, Blood Sweat and Tears "Symphony for the Devil", bad and hilarious at the same time in how it tries too hard

I didn't see the Beastie Boys version of Benny & The Jets yet. Makes me want to stick an ice pick in my ear.
The band was The Classics IV, and the Atlanta Rhythm Section actually morphed from them, much in the same way ELO morphed from The Move, Led Zep from the Yardbirds, Argent from the Zombies, The Eurythmics from The Tourists, and so on.
Every song on Grant Lee Phillip's 80's cover album (he does the cure, the smiths, new order, etc). Any time some asshat decides to take a uptempo song and play it slow and sad on acoustic guitar i want to smash the latter over their heads. The main reason why i wish acoustic guitars didn't exist is because of that kind of ****. 90% of anyone who ever exclusively played acoustic is a talentless moron strumming three or four boring open chords. Don't bother replying with your personal list of worthwhile acoustic players, i probably didnt mean them.
Save Ferris' ska take on Come on Eileen. Obviously 90' neo ska is another reason on my personal long list of why the 90's was culturally speaking the worst decade (well post WWII anyway).

While the Stones have done their fair share of covers, and in some cases ending up 'owning' the song("Route 66", "She Said Yeah!", "Love In Vain"), they have done some stinkers. I think their most wretched rendition was The Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud To Beg"(that guitar solo, really, Keith?), surprisingly it something of a hit, just at the time when they started to phone it in. However, this example(another Temps tune, ironically), wasn't so much bad as it was just lame...why did they bother?
Another similar artist in that vein is Mark Kozelek/Red House Painters. I hate all of his ironic namby-pamby whiney junkie mope covers...
Not badly executed, but it just reminds me of the scores of lame coffee house types I've seen thru the years who will do a cover of an involved song and reduce it to two or three chords, not as an 'artistic' statement(although they'll tell you that)but because they're too inept to learn the tune.
Yikes, that cover of "My Girl" is truly horrible. I reckon any band that tries to cover The Temptations is just asking for trouble.
What, no love for Richie Havens' "Here Comes The Sun", so warm and soulful? Jeff Beck's instro of "A Day In The Life" is so devastating, especially live. Siouxie and the Banshees' take on "Dear Prudence" may not be to everyone's taste, but they infused some power into it while keeping a psychedelic flavor. Even The Damned's sloppy piss-take of "Help" is hilarious.
This is depressing, talkbass... stop being so depressing... what about covers that made original song better?
True enough; there's been plenty of covers that were better than the originals, or so different that they were brilliant. So why not start a thread about great covers?
