Very striking looking guitar. Flawless work as usual.
Now as weird as I am if I ordered that bass I would ask Chuck to tape off the thumb
rest and leave it natural wood with maybe a dark stain on it to set it off.

I just joined the club!
I own this CP below. It's Serial B-017 completed on 3/27/2017.
I string it with a high-C. EADGC. So earlier this year ( about a year after the photo below was taken) I swapped out the E-string with a drop-d tuner. I love this bass.

Welcome to the very elite bass owner club! What makes this an elite club is that there aren't many CP Thornton basses out there and who's a member of Talkbass. I'd like to see a big change in both of those categories!

A couple of pics. So far I'm really impressed with the build quality. The neck is fast and really pretty grain.
How about 7.5 pounds? strung with my fave flats.....(I may have converted Chuck). I'm digging the Nordy noise free PJ set, though I need to do a couple of gigs with my trusty cabs and Mesa head. Have outdoor gig after Labor Day where I can crank it up. And indoor concert after that. Can't wait.

Super nice birds-eye maple on the neck. About the nicest I have seen on any instrument.
The lines on that bass design are like a sculpture, I love the flow and balance of the whole instrument.

I played one of my three #1 basses today in service. I had the bass EQ set to a P tone, which I very seldom use on my passive basses because it's not my tone of preference. I was able to hear a FB post of a couple of the selections and I actually liked what I heard, although the video/audio were captured via a phone!

Just got my TR-5 this afternoon. What an absolutely incredible bass. I have either owned, or do own, FBass, Pedulla, Sadowsky NYC, Warwick, Musicman Stingrays, Conklin and Spector. I simply have no words to describe what an absolute masterpiece this bass is. The craftsmanship is mind blowing, and the attention to detail is incredible. The bass plays like a dream and sounds even better. Every single note on the fretboard sings. The clarity, punch and tone of this bass 2nd none. This bass sounds "alive" and has a truly unique character. I cant say enough good things about this bass. I absolutely love it!

I'm trying a set of D'Addario Chromes on my passive CP Thornton bass! Can't wait to hear how it sounds in service this Sunday.
I first tried them on an active Roscoe LG with a Demeter preamp and loved the sound in the mix.
I really like the feel of the Chromes. So smooth!

So I recorded with my new PJ yesterday. One tune was light funk so it was J pickup only, a terrific sound. We dialed out the tone shaping on the DI box so it was genuine bass tone right to the console. Turns out the studio owner engineer and guitarist, Alan Bean, knows Chuck and used to own Chuck's guitar #3.
Everyone on the session wanted to hold or play my PJ, unanimous in praise including about the 7.5 pound weight.
This is my third session with this songwriter/singer/producer and so far it has taken weeks before she provides a near final mix, so for a while nothing to share so you could hear the tone.
And on live gigs (not with this songwriter) the guys are effusive about the sound of my bass. And most of those songs are mostly P pickup with a tad of J blended in, or all P. Chuck recommended the Nordstrand pups for this PJ build, and I love em.

Yes yes yes to Chromes! I asked Chuck to put them on my PJ and they are broken in now to the point where they sound fabulous. I have chromes on almost all of my basses. The exceptions are Deep Talkin Flats on an old Fender P, and lower tension TI flats on a hollow body fretless.
