CRAAAAP, another taken band name

As far as I'm concerned the name was taken by an incredible band named The Art of Noise.

'Windows' is a common word, but definitely trademarked for computer operating systems.

Microsoft owns the trademark "Microsoft Windows", not just the singular word. They lost their lawsuit against Lindows because it was determined that the window-based GUI existed before Windows came out.

If you're going to use a generic word for your band name, it has already been taken by a hundred other bands across the world, and you're going to have a hard time anyone ever finding your band on a whim.

The original name of "Dinosaur Jr." was just "Dinosaur" until a band called "The Dinosaurs" threatened to sue. Mascis in a stroke of genius added the "Jr." to both settle the dispute and be funny.

So, I suggest: Noise Jr.

Naming a band and hoping it's unique is akin to choosing a login name only to find it's already taken. Unless you are nationally famous or attempting to copyright the name, it doesn't matter if some band in Pudunk, Ohio
already has a band with the same name.

IMO: it probably doesn't matter at all, ever. variants will get web addresses.

As a member of a band in Pudunk, Ohio, I take extreme umbrage at that comment. As a matter of fact, "Extreme Umbrage" is our name.

pudunk is in indiana. podunk is pure buckeye --- but "extreme umbrage" is pretentiousness run amok ('amuck' in podunk).

For the record, it's "POdunk", not "PUdunk". Coming from Podunk I'm allowed to say that, right?

Read the dictionary.com entry on it. Personally I agree with you, it makes more sense. But both are in common use, meaning the same thing.

Whenever any band I'm in has trouble finding a name, I always suggest Vas Deferens and the Testicle Brothers. That usually focuses everyone and we come up with a name almost instantly.

I've been doing IP law for 10 years. I'm not going to type a 5,000 word treatise on my phone, but I will say almost everything posted here is wrong to one degree or another.

This is spot on if you are trying to be known on a national level. When people google your band name, you need to be the first or second result to pop up. We have short attention spans, and might get distracted by whatever shows up before your band.
