They're not being picked on because of their age or class (although everyone is stereotyping them); we actually don't know very much about them. They could have purchased the gear by working hard and saving, for all we know!

What they ARE guilty of is being controlling and prohibitive. They post a classified ad asking for a bass player, but not telling people what kind of music they play. Then they set up some gear rules that are arguably more draconian than even the most famous rock band.

You guys make such a huge deal out of this.. If I saw this ad on my own, I would have read it and wouldn't respond to it. That's about it. I don't see anything that is particularly funny or disturbing.

I think what's funny is some 17 year old kids branding themselves as "raw, fun, and marketable". Hell, I cringe when adults start describing what they want to do as raw, fun and marketable... it just sounds really tacky to me, personally.

Well Grizzly, It would seem that you and I and all the other GK "working" musicians are idiots, and our gear is crap. I seriously doubt I will be able to sleep tonight knowing that I have been wrong all along, and it took the infinite wisdom of a 17 year old, that has never played a real gig in his pubescent life, to educate me.

this ad is typical..and is probably only actually FUNNY to GK users.

i mean, i'm not a fan of GK but i know not to publicly diss a product owned by a VERY large number of bassists.

This is quite sad. I remember when I was 12, it took me a couple of months to convince my parents to buy me a used classic guitar. When I switched to bass 3 years later, I spent almost 8 years playing on basses that weren't mine. I'd spend hours after school was over just to use the school bass.
Then, 8 years later, I got me a used Ibanez Roadstar II. I now own most of the basses I play and would like to own. But it did take much sweat and I am proud to have bought them all from my own money.
