Craigslist Bass player wanted ad

It's not the same, but there's a guy who's been posting ads as a drummer as of late. I always get a kick out of this guy's ad:

If you click on his myspace page, there's a cluster**** of videos of him playing. He says he's "stylistically diverse, but you wouldn't know it from his videos/samples. They're all driving rock beats, and all sound the same, with all the bpms around 80 or something (about the same speed as "When the Levee Breaks").

What I really like is this from his myspace site:

[I am the] owner of a huge (I've been told it's the largest in the Sacramento area) Pearl set which has taken me several years to complete. Actually I still need a few more items to complete the set. I built the set to fulfill my life long dream to be endorsed by pearl drums and this year im gonna make it happen!!!

...and how does that matter to anyone? I guess you can get a good work out lugging all of his crap to the various gigs...

Whoopie.

Few things in the music world tick me off more than someone who poo poos the gear of someone else because of the brand. A crappy instrument and amp are going to sound like crap no matter who's playing it, but there's a lot of gear out there that is of good quality that costs a fraction of the name brand stuff.

Just because your bass says Fender and you spent $2,000 on it while mine says Peavey and cost several hundred doesn't make yours automatically better or make you a better player. I hate seeing kids and adults alike who's wallet (or their parents wallet) and ego far outweigh any talent they might have.

When I was first starting out I saw a 15 year old make his mom buy him a brand new Fender strat and Marshall half stack. Why? Because little Johny wanted to learn to play guitar and $100 starter pack from WalMart was beneath him. I guess he figured if mommy dropped several grand on top name gear that would automatically make him a great player.

sellout much?

"fun and marketable."
"Ampeg, Aguilar, Mesa, and other top of the line bass stuff is preferred."
"Before all the Craigslist cry baby's start crying about me forgetting there precious GK. Im sorry we have standards and GK is completely not in them."

they mentioned nothing about the players skill, or capabilities of the amp. they said that g-k is not in their standards, but ampeg is. so theyre saying that someone with a 115 halfstack would get in over someone with an 810 gk fullstack. right...

I personally have never been able to get a good sound whilst playing through a GK rig, BUT
I've heard lots of people pull awesome tones out of them!
The gear doesn't matter at all! (provided it works...)
All it really comes down to is the player! and their hairstyle!

Well I use GK, and love my sound. As a matter of fact so does everyone I talk too. I do agree with you on the hair, If you don't have a pony tail, you suck. LMAO

A helpful soul (not me) has posted to the DFW CL in an effort to alert them to how silly they look to us.

What if they are just being completely honest in that all they really care about is the gear, and that musical skill, ability, experience, and style, are not particularly important to them?

Speaking from previous experiences, when you are 16 or 17, two things you usually know are: how to not do your homework--and who you think is cool and worth imitating.

What if the shallowness of these kids CL listing just reflects the adults around them? Nah, that couldn't be it--just not possible. ;)

For christ's sake everybody, they are young and are doing just what they want to be doing, so BFD! If you you only use GK then don't apply, that's what they want, they're not starting "your" band it's theirs.

and to the folks that think their parents are putting gobs of money into them for no good reason, it's better than not knowing what they're doing all hours of the night.
