Crappiest bass you've ever played?

Our guitar player bought a used Squire 5 string precision just to have around the house.

I played it at one practice one night. I've never played a bass with a thicker, more uncomfortable neck in my life, after 2 hours my wrist and left hand were killing me.

I learned to play on a Kay copy of a Gibson EB. Frets were uneven, the further up the neck you went the sharper the tuning was (not adjustable), you could see the plywood layers through the paint, and the sound was not pleasant. Yet I managed to learn to play on the beast despite it's faults.

A Fender Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass Fretless......HUGE hunk of crap!! Now I do like the the new Squier basses, really I do, but this one had to be built by a newbie at the factory. Looked like a blind man leveled the fretboard, there were dents in the body that were done BEFORE finishing. And it just sounded awful. I've heard dog farts with better tone!

Me too. I like squier as well but the 77 VM they sent me was God awful. The bridge was off center by alot! The frets were so far from being level it looked like waves in the ocean with a hurricane brewing.

The crappiest bass I ever played would be an epiphone sg 5-string bass. that bass is definitely the worst bass guitar I've ever played. I played one at a guitar center in arlington heights a few years ago and the sound quality is just terrible. the bass sounded like rusty coil springs. I tried getting a decent sound from it...nothing. that bass is really crappy sounding. the Ibanez basses I usually play whenever I go to a guitar center or a samash sounds a lot better.

I played a Washburn that was probably the bottom of their line for awhile, while I was "filling in" as our second bass player. It was sucking on that bass that made me decide to get my Fender Jazz, to see if it was me or the bass.

It was a little bit of both, but the Jazz helped to bring out my strengths a lot more than that Washburn ever could have.

Don't feel too bad, awilkie84. I had a similar experience with a warwick corvette. I played one at a guitar center in halsted and the tone just sounds pretty dull. I'm guessing it's because it needed new strings. perhaps you felt that the warwick thumb sounded dead because it needed new strings. even though the warwick corvettes are not too bad, it just wasn't the right bass for me. and I can easily understand if the warwick thumb is not the right bass for you. personally I would choose an Ibanez sr505 over a warwick corvette because it's light-weighted and it's more affordable. I also dig the sound quality on that bass.
