Crazy downstairs neighbor

When our downstairs neighbors decide to have a late night tuesday party and it's 3am and they're hooting and hollering, I bang on the floor with a 25lb barbell weight. The whole house shakes and rings like a bell from hell and the party stops quickly. Next time she uses the broom, you should escalate with something much heavier than her broom.

Just ignore her. She's being unreasonable. If you respond to her every beck and call by being as silent as possible, that just reinforces her bad behaviour. Don't go out of your way to make as much noise as possible, but there's no reason to be unreasonably quiet. If she wants absolute silence she can go get a cabin in the woods (and let her try banging her broom to get the tree frogs and owls to shut up).

Most people that age are bitter because they are lonely. Think about it. Next time she bangs on her ceiling, go down there and apologize. Bring her some fresh baked cookies and offer to stay for a chat.

If you become good friends with her, maybe she won't mind as much.

Have you tried talking to the lady? It's sad she's so crabby. Maybe she's just lonely, who knows? At least if you try reaching out to her, you did your best. Should she be banging like that? Of course not. Those folks who talk about her dying soon are just a bit cruel. She may live to 110, so working it out, if possible, is best. Headphones would work in the meantime. She should be more tolerant, as we all should be. Another option is an acoustic bass guitar. In the meantime, I'm going to turn it up for you right now! Good luck.

Hello, Tampa Police Dept. Yes, this is Grandma Moses reporting loud . . . . . . etc, - yes, we will send an officer out.

Let the old lady be. ;)

I was joking, just joking.

But, yes, leave the old lady alone. Don't do anything to antagonize, but, also, don't feel like you have to be subject to her demands for utter silence from her upstairs neighbors.

After all, she chose to live in an apartment, right?

(I had a similar issue eons ego, when I was still living in apts; downstairs neighbors blasted their TV day and night, but whenever I played bass, or played the stereo, they complained. One day they complained, and I said, "please show me how loud it is in your apartment." So they took me to the place in their apt where they said they could hear the sound. I could definitely hear my stereo, but it was very distant, and very quiet. They insisted that they shouldn't be able to hear it at all. I told them that they had to expect that they were going to sometimes hear noises from neighboring apartments. Eventually, they moved, or I moved. Can't remember now.)

Buy the vintage Ampeg even if you can't even plug it in. Then go down, have a cup of coffee and a piece of cake with her, talk to her and be her friend. Then pray to God you'll be that spry, cranky, and full of energy when you're 96...if you even make it that far. You'll still have plenty of time to play the amp.

Best advice all week. Choose your own deity of course.
