A friend busted a table from Ikea.... how about that honey comb cardboard. Or better yet, the thick carboard they use in cat scratching pads.

Danelectros were (still are ?) made of masonite. And they sounds pretty good.

Interesting. I suppose there may be specimens that are not suitable for guitarmaking, but that's true of many species. In the comments of that article there are people who feel like sycamore (planetree) can produce a fine sounding guitar. I guess I will just have to finish the instrument I'm building.
