Crazy small cabinet

I've had good results with an Ampeg SVT210AV in that kind of situation. It's a bit heavier at a whopping 26 pounds, but take eq well at lowish volume and sits in a mix well. I've used mine with a five string for low volume rehearsals with an acoustic guitar and unamplified vocals and really liked it there.

That's also a cabinet that fits the OP's budget.

I am looking for a small cab, one that would be appropriate with a couple of acoustic guitars. I already have a micro head and have other cabinets to use in a louder volume situation. I was looking for something like a shuttle stl-10t, very small, only 16 lbs. Also seem to be scarce. Is there anything else like that? In the 20 lb range, unobtrusive, and enough volume to deal with an acoustic situation.

Long ago I had a Roland cube 60. It was great up to trios with cocktail drums and acoustic piano. I don't even need that much out of this cabinet.
Gallien-Krueger 112MBX is only 16 lbs.

Hi there Taxmiser, here is what the Crazy8 sounds like with a Rob Allen Deep 4 fretless acoustic bass with black nylon tapewounds. I miked this cab with an AKG Perception 400 large diaphram mic and powered the cab with a Puma 900. You can find these cabs used occasionally, esp. on the double bass side of TB. My wooden Crazy8 weighs 16lbs, incl. kickstand. My other two Crazy8s (used as PA mains in my home studio) weigh a few pounds less. Definitely a quality cab that will please you for your application! Avoid the fiberglass models as their build quality is poor - at least that was my experience as I had to replace all three with wooden cabinets. It was worth it!

(PS, in case you're wondering, for this gig recording I used a Radial JDV active direct box to record the guitar and a Shure Beta92a boundary mic inside the cajon.)

Hey, awesome tune by the way! Really enjoyed it.

Last week I tried some Bergantino cabinets and I ended up with the NV115 but was hugely impressed with the HD112. So small yet so huge sounding. I think I am going to get one later to use as my practice rig. Doesn't really qualify as cheap but sure was nice and small. With one of these and a micro head why would anyone chose a combo?

If you feel up to making your own, check out this thread about making a speaker cabinet out of easy to acquire parts for around $110. Low-cost DIY practice/coffeehouse tweeterless 110 [long] | TalkBass.com

That's another route I was considering as well. However, the mi10 or kustom pa route looks to be similar in cost and lighter in weight. unless you can make that can from plywood rather than the mdf box from parts express. Since I have no woodworking skills at all (if I tried it my new tb name would be "Lefty"), the other 2 options are better for me right now. But who knows in the future.

Too bad the company went defunct. I have a Polysonics M-8 Cricket 8" 200w 8ohm cab. Aprox. 20lbs. It's a well made, solid build. No tweeter. It won't go too loud but it'd be perfect for a quiet coffee house type acoustic gig. If I'm not mistaken, Ashdown does some mini cabs. A 10" and an 12" IIRC.

I used to own a B1. It was too dark for my taste and would probably be too colored as an cab for acoustic guitar. Remember everyone: the OP wants an acoustic guitar cab. Standard bass cabs do not usually fill this bill.

He wants a cab to play bass through with acoustic guitars, not an acoustic guitar cab.

the Acme B1 is pefect for this. A used one is also possible in his price range.

Ah, you could be right. I had a personal discussion with the OP last year and he said he wanted to play small gigs as a guitarist. So it could be he changed his mind.

I still don't like the B1. Too dark. :D

My solution would be this Piccolo8, cab build for piccolo bass | TalkBass.com
It's a small horn-reflex cabinet that will have no problem supporting two acoustic guitars.
The slanted baffle design has two advantages:
- no tweeter needed because the driver points slightly upwards so beaming isn't much of an issue
- and because of that the cabinet can be placed on the ground which enhances the low end response

The horn-reflex design does add some coloration though, let's say it sounds more "acoustic/woody" then a normal ported cabinet. When I play my EUB through this cab the woody character enhances that of the EUB.

I used the Oberton 8mb201 but the Beyma 8g40 is a direct replacement and will do the job almost as good

+1 on the Schroeder Mini 12+L, but finding a used one is the only thing that's going to get you toward your price range.

You might also check the Double Bass classifieds. These are apparently the types of things of more interest there. Definitely not as much activity though. There's an EA 110 for $250.
