Curbow Club

By the way- on the earlier EQ boosts too loud issue- there is usually a master gain in the guts that you can turn down a bit. If you boost the bass and mids a lot, it will still give the sound you want, but with a signal that won't clip your system. Note- a little is usualLy all that is needed

Cliff

Cliff stutts is officially #10.

As a side note, after a few weeks of playing my Fender Jazz & P-bass, and my new (to me) G&L, I went back and spent some time on the Curbow the other night. To me, THAT is the tone I wanna hear. Snappy, clear as a bell, and growly to boot. Too bad it doesn't work in my current band... guess I'll need to start a side project (in all my spare time... hahahahaha). Seriously though, if I ever build a bass again, I'm modeling the neck profile after my Curbow, as it's the fastest neck I think I've ever played.

Right... rockwood would be quite a feat to reproduce, but even with different woods, the shape and dimensions of it (to me) are perfect. After playing the Curbow, playing anything else, even my MTD, feels like playing a log.

I'd assume that the shape was possible because of the extremely stable and stiff rockwood. It's pretty thing from what I remember, right? I can't say I'd trust any normal wood for something like that.

The shape isn't that thin, and I'm using the basic dimensions from my Jazz 5 for a bass that Alan Cringean (ACG) is building me. So, I don't think it's something that would be impossible to do with wood, but the feel and response will not be the same as the Rockwood necks.

Somewhere in all my boxes of stuff I have the neck shapes in a 3d CadCam format. We were attempting to do CNC way before anyone else. This was pre Rockwood. Not sure what all I have as my memory sucks but I believe I have something like the IEP deminsions in a Neck Through Bass.

That's good to know Mike. I'm going on memory here. The last Curbow I checked out was Skuli Sverrisson's 6 string over two years ago.

Well I finally got around to taking a few quick pics of my 1996 Petite 5. It only took me several years to get to it. :)
Mmmmmmm......purty. The camera angle makes the body shape look a little strange but you guys know what it is.

Nice. I have that same type body lying around here somewhere with no neck. I was using it figure some of Greg's stuff out for him. I've often though it might be nice to put a neck in it but then something tells me no.

Wow, that looks amazing!

Hi folks! I'm looking to join this club soon. I posted in the WTB section, but I figured I'd put the feelers out here as well. If anyone happens to see an IEP 5 for sale, let me know. I'm jonesin' for one. Carved top, rockwood neck, 19-20mm spacing preferred!

Thanks! :)

Surely there are more Curbows floating around on TB. I wanna see 'em!

To recap the (far too small) list thus far, for my own sanity:

1 Rusackas
2 MikeZimmerman
3 ko_stradavarius
4 stretchcat
5 badaxe24
6 TomBowlus
7 JoeWillix
8 punkrocko
9 piercer
10 Cliffstutts

BTW, Bass Emporium in Austin has an IEP5 in great shape, but a bit too rich for my blood at $3700... perhaps there's some wiggle room.

Thanks for the heads up! I just snagged that Petite 5. Awesome, Pics when it hits my doorstep. Glad I found this thread. Only other Curbows I could find listed for sale anywhere are at Ed Roman's. He wants HUGE $$$$ for those.

Take care - DM
