Curbow Club

I don't need a number..I don't own a Curbow, but maybe I still qualify for membership?
I met Greg when he replaced me in a cover band in the mid 70's. Instead of being competitive, he allowed me to set his tone, as I we both had Acoustic 370 heads.

Years later, he had a small shop in our "Little 5 Points" community in Atlanta. A few years later, he opened a larger shop under his house around the corner. He installed Schaller tuners on my second Rick bass. He had an eclectic collection of odds and ends; a Mellotron, a wooden pipe from a pipe prgan, as well as basses and speaker cabs. He was always patient cordial and kind. Sometimes I used to just hang and chat..talk basses.
Next time we saw him was at the Firm Concert in Atlanta; he toured as Page's guitar tech for a while. Later, after he moved to North Georgia, I heard about his first bout with cancer..He seemed fine..no complaints.. Last time I saw him was coincidentally at a seminar with Adam Nitti. Greg let me help bring in basses which Adam played. I was more interested in Greg than Adam..I'll never get that 2 hand stuff down..we talked basses; he explained his process and line of basses. My only complaint is that this basses are heavy. He was OK with that.

Last time I saw him, he still seemed fine, happy and energetic. I asked about his Cort deal. He said that he was very pleased and satisfied. I never saw him alive again.

Hind sight: I wish I had bought a Curbow, I believed that he had won his battle and would still be with us today, but I was able to get all I wanted from ZON and for thousands less...
I will always remember Greg as a kind, patient, sincere, genuine person, who happened to play bass and was also a luthier..I counted him as a friend.

OK..Thanks..zon6c-f

Thanks for the heads up! I just snagged that Petite 5. Awesome, Pics when it hits my doorstep. Glad I found this thread. Only other Curbows I could find listed for sale anywhere are at Ed Roman's. He wants HUGE $$$$ for those.

Take care - DM

I still have my five string for sale. I'm looking for $2000

I have that five string and also a six and a seven string. The seven was made for me by Greg and is my baby, I bought the other two after he passed. the six needs a little work and I plan on putting a Roland Midi pickup on it - great solo bass. I also have a pre CBS Fender 4 string which I prefer over the Curbow 5. So, I am selling, but in no rush. These are my babies.... All the best from the Florida Keys.
