My blue Cort Curbow 5 is over 12 years old and so is the strap for it lol. Once, the volume knob was loose, tightened it with an allen wrench, other than that, all I've ever had to do to it was adjust the bridge saddles and put strings on it. Great bass. It did take awhile to get the slap switch adjustments right, but I enjoyed the tinkering. Don't think I've ever had any instrument that long that needed no repairs whatsoever

Everytime I look for Curbow 4 for sale all I get bombarded with is ads for Corts. Maybe someday a carved top Petite 4 will become available. Sigh....

I hardly think anyone could be affiliated since Greg is gone and the company is no more. Besides posting Curbow for sale might help a TB'er to find one. I believe it would be a valuable service to post available Curbow's.
That instrument was surely built by Doug Summerville as Greg was deceased prior to 2007.

Proud member of this club, will post a pic soon. I've had my Petite 5 since 2001 (bought it off my old bass teacher for next to nothing compared to what it's worth) and I've always thought is was the sexiest most playable bass out there with the "never warping" ridiculous flat action. Needless to say, I wasn't a fan of the tone when I put it up against my Carvin or Warwick. Finally, all these years later, I've dialed in the perfect EQ with the perfect gear and I cannot put this bass down to save my life...
Two questions for the guru's here:
1) What are these things worth now that no more are being made? I need this for insurance purposes because I refuse not to gig with it.
2) Is it really true that Greg Curbow never used a milling machine on his basses? I find it hard to believe but that's what I've read...

I'm not sure what you mean by a "milling machine". Greg did not use CNC (computer-controlled) cutting/routing machines, but he certainly used routers and other powered tools.

Alright, that would make sense then. CNC is one thing, but not using the basic machinery to get a production line out without driving yourself insane is another.
Here is my Curbow hanging out with the Carvin... I know, missing some knobs. Due for a pre-tour overhaul. Brings up another question for the Curbow crowd:
Love the bass, sometimes have problems with the electronics. Do any of you guys have problems eliminating the highs on the 3 band EQ? This is driving me nuts. It seems as though the high knob only cuts or boosts in a very high range. This means a lot of highs still come through even when I've got them cut on the bass. I have to cut the rest on my amp. I'm also noticing that pot tends to affect the lows as well. If I boost my highs full blast, I lose low end without the low know being touched. What's up with that?

The older Curbows generally used the Bart TCT (I think) preamps, and a lot of people eventually replaced them with the NTMB preamps. You might check to see which preamp yours has.

Actually that is not an older Curbow. That is one of the newer styles. The older ones had Neck Through Construction with no carved tops.

I can't wait to get my hands on this! I'm pretty confident this along with my Petite 5 and Dinky Jazz will be my main goto
instrument! Beautiful! Xmas came early for me this year Bigtime!

Hey Mike - yeah, I've been looking for a Petite 4 forever man. Nowhere to be found. Routinely, I check here, the online sites and Ebay. When this came up I freaked. No bids?
7 day auction and 3 days in with 0 bids. The seller told me a bunch of people were watching it. He told me what he wanted and I pulled the trigger. Seems Curbow 4's are pretty rare. Seems Greg made more 5's and up than 4's? Anyhow...Glad I found this! I only wish I knew about Greg when he was alive. His instruments are awesome! Take care man - Dennis
