Curious - who has a gig tonight or this weekend.....

i am playing a drag night/costume party tonight. that's a new one for me. the band is two males, two females, so we are switching up. i had a good friend help me get set up at goodwill last weekend.

tomorrow i play out of town at what should be a good, big gig. we play a set, our friend's band plays a set, and then i will cover the bass for a third set with the other band doing black sabbath's first album. i have been playing thru it for two weeks. i am digging it and getting psyched.

I think you started a thread about this. Aren't you guys doing it with basically no rehearsal? Or was that a different TBer?

P.S. cool that this thread has been kept alive. Gigs! Gigs! Gigs!

yep, that was me. i learned the tunes and started playing thru with the album last week. i got a recording of the band's practicing the album on wednesday. so i have been playing thru with them these last few days. that was very valuable; there are some differences. its quite a set of changes to keep in order.

it has been a blast learning geezer's style and playing along. i greatly appreciate the support i got here to go for it.

its a good thing i don't have to play the album in drag. one thing at a time!

the gig is in decorah, iowa if anyone out there wants to come by! i think the place is called haymarket.

Well, just got back, nice club, close to home, 8:30-10:30.

This is one of the places we bring karaoke for the patrons to sing on breaks, where we play three longer sets w/half-hour breaks,

The second break went longer because of singers, including the owner, who’s pretty cool, and his buddies.

There was something special going on, an anniversary of some kind, I’m thinking for the club being open or something, ‘cause we did our “birthday” song as an “anniversary” song, and the place was so f’in packed.

Apparently he offered us extra to play over, so we did, but I honestly don’t know how much longer, as time flies on stage; all I know is I got a bunch more cash.

I know we supposedly played the last song, I took off my bass, turned off my rig, turned off the power amps (usually near me) so we could commence striking, then I got the signal we were gonna continue, so I turned everything back on.

I don’t know how many we ended up playing, but it was fun ‘cause the floor was f’in packed, and a few decent looking babes.

Tomorrow’s Halloween gig, not so close, but should be fun.

Well, drummer and I are gonna sit here in the music room and drink, so…

:)

Okay, funny stuff...

We’re playing in a corner, and there’s a shelf on the wall above with various trophies.

Towards the end of the night, we’re playing, and the drums stop… ***… a big-azz trophy vibrated off the shelf and hit the drummer in the leg.

(He says it still hurts and he has a black/blue mark.)

Anyways, a couple minutes later another little one falls and hits a cymbal, then his chest, then a third one hit him in his shoulder.

He’s sitting here bitching as I’m laughing about it, but I’m telling him, hey, at least it didn’t hit any drum heads, haha…

:)

I'm playing Mundijong tavern this Friday night with the 3 piece classic rock covers band I play bass for. I'm not looking forward to it. Last time we played there the place was dead, and the leader has done no more promotion than last time, so I'm expecting the same result. Plus we struggle on the vocals, making do with what we have, which makes the gigs grind on a bit too.

all you guys make me want to find somebody else wacky to do little eclectic coffee house type jams. sounds mad fun.

my weekend is deliciously empty. i have a show at the biggest/nicest place i've ever played (Slims in SF) on the 13th then head to Japan for a couple weeks to visit family. STOOPID busy lately. this end week/weekend are going to be finishing of my TB Noise comp piece and recording some effects clips.

I've got a gig tonight at what is apparently a Karaoke bar.... We are supporting a sort of Mumford and Sons tediously earnest indie-folk band. I usually stick around and watch the headliners but not this time! I envisage a sea of sweaty guys with beards and plaid shirts doing the whole 'painfully blue collar' thing.
