The Marion is always fun. lol

Last night's gig was really fun. People started dancing about the 3rd of 4th song of the 1st set and danced the rest of the night.

FYI - we are a classic rock cover band. Our guitarist's motto is that at our age (mid-40s) if he isn't at home on the couch at 1:30 in the morning then he wants to know that people are having fun. It certainly was the case last night.

Had a gig last night at a local hotel bar. Our female lead singer was very ill and couldn't perform - and she sings like 85% of our songs! So the guitarist and I had to sing all night. I mean, like sing lead (I do sing some backup generally).

There is a reason I'm the bass player and not the lead singer! We need her back ... :bassist:

Headed out now for the last gig at this bar little dive bar; nice folks, but low pay. Usually Fridays are so-so rooms and Sat’s are good, this weekend was the opposite.

Oh well, low stress on this one, and I’m feeling a bit under the weather, and a bit hung over from staying up drinking after last night’s gig (I don’t drink at the gigs) with the drummer at my house (he stays a couple houses from me) till who knows when.

i can see that! i always take a little while to decompress. my head's usually in a weird place and i'm not really in the mood to talk to people right after i play. seems like a whole 'nother skill set to be able to perform in that type of situation.

..... 'course i have a tiny bit of environmental Agoraphobia.

yay shut-ins! there was a meeting scheduled.... but nobody showed up.

Well, tonight’s gig went fine. Two songs started badly. Guitarist said I was off key at first on one, but I swear I wasn’t. Oh well, I’ll check it out tomorrow.

Another song we recently learned, vocal starts it, no beat, then he and I come in together, and I guess we were counting different, so I started before he did, and instead of going with me, which is what ya do live when someone screws up, he played his part when he thought it should come in, right over top of me, which sounded like ****; I don’t know why he did that…

Oh well, otherwise, it all went pretty well.

My trio played at the fall festival of a private university today. I was looking forward to it, and it went great. They had the PA system all set up (all EAW/QSC stuff ... bitchen), and I plugged my own sound board into the snake, they ran it to the mains and monitors, and it was fabulous. Great reception, and all kinds of little tots out front dancing.

You'll be fine, My neighbour has been there all week with his Harley - travelled down from Toronto - he likes 90's rock at least :) I'll ask if he saw you when he gets back.

Munjibunga had what sounds like really fun gig.

ours last night was odd. we ended up an hour and a half away with 2 bands an hour away the other direction at a small bar that doesn't draw a lot by itself. played for the other bands and MAYBE 10 people. but got in good with the booker who books like 3 other places we want to play at.

so fun and probably helpful in the long run.

this thread is a tad different, i think the OP was curious more about how many people had more "obligatory" or "fun" gigs lined up.

The new horn band played at a popular place Friday night, manager said best crowd he'd seen in years, all the tables were reserved, had the crowd screaming all night, sounded pretty good, that was fun.

Also filled in with a local blues guy at a fundraiser for the Arab American Caldean Council on Saturday...

I didn't know they were fans of the blues... :D

We were supposed to play, then they do a program while we eat in another room, then we play while they eat.

Had the world's record for the shortest first set. Someone got the times mixed up, we got 50 seconds into the first song of the first set when they cut us off to do the program.... Oh well, off to dinner! Just played straight through the next set roughly an hour and a quarter. Done.
