I "think" I'm going with another 4 stringer. I told Chris I wanted him to "Make the sickest ****ing bass you've ever built!!"

I want to see how many different types of wood I can use for one bass while still keeping it "Bassnutz" style!!

I'll still be using three Aero pups, just wired different for different tones. They'll be radiused as well as the ramp will be. This bass has to top my first one built by Chris......as well as every one he'll be building for me after this one.

It's due on Wednesday, although I had it shipped UPS 3-day so it's possible it'll arrive tomorrow (that's happened to me in the past). I hate it when UPS doesn't have an update for teh tracking info for like 3 straight days No pics on Bass Central yet, so I'll probably see it for the first time when I open the case.

6. I decided I didn't feel like tempting the fates with my hands. There's an 8 in my future, just not right now. I'm impressed that you remember that.

Here are the specs:

6 string, bolt-on, standard body shape, 24 fanned frets (35"-32"), 16mm string spacing
Ash body, flamed maple top, matching flamed maple headstock
5 piece maple/purpleheart neck (m/p/m/p/m), thin profile, ebony fretboard
2 Aero humbuckers, ebony pickup covers, Bartolini NTMB 5.4 A/P preamp
Hipshot tuners and bridge saddles
Black hardware
Satin oil finish


This all turns out as good as I think it will, and I'll be placing a second order next year. Chris is a real pleasure to deal with.

I'm surprised you'd go with Stambaugh for that. Given the relative simplicity of the woods and the specifics of the design, wouldn't a non-custom Dingwall be a better fit? Or do they not offer sixes in the non-custom models?

Eh, I dunno. I just like Chris' body design, plus Dingwalls are a bit out of my price range, I believe. There's just something in general about Stambaughs that appeal to me more than Dingwalls, right now.

Besides, there's plenty of time for other stuff.

I love this thread, both for the pictures and learning about luthiers I have never heard of. Surge, that looks a very interesting bass you have ordered there, especially the contouring they do to the top horn!
