Stew and poptart, thanks for your kind comments. The Sei 8 is really starting to come together. Those excited / frustrated (I want it now) feelings are really starting to ramp up now...patience, patience, patience!

Here's one of the post-finishing pics that Mike Flynn took on a visit to The Gallery.

I thank him for not only taking the pics, but for taking them quickly off my build thread when he read that I didn't want to see anything that would spoil the surprise when I saw my bass last week !!

Here's my Sei post-finishing and before any hardware or electronics were added.

Hope, you'll understand why I'm so excited about my Sei :bassist: :bassist:

Very nice!!

Whilst Mike takes a good picture, 7 String's new Sei bass is so much better than in the picture (so often the way). Being as unbiased as possible, the birds eye maple fretboard on his bass is probably the best I have ever seen. :bassist:

Haven't had time to chime in for a while (need typing lessons).
Poptart's single cut turned out first rate - congrats!
Really becoming a fan of the Sei Basses, especially digging that mondo aggressive offset from behind on Sei24Bass' 8-er.

Unfortunately my Laggan 7 single cut build hit another snag (15 months and counting).
A fault in the {fantastic-perfect-for-my-bass'-shape} spalted maple revealed itself during planing.
Don't have the stomach to get into details or to post pics of the carnage.
I'll just say its now unusable. (I think Russ L is still flogging himself in repentance.)
Onward:
Found another killer piece of spalted on Link Removed.
Is shipping to Russ. Will probably have it layed out like this:
SpaltedTop2.jpg

Not as perfect as the first piece-:

-but it should still turn out reeeeal nice..

That's a drag...but I like that new top a lot. :)

Thanks, I look forward to seeing progress on your project. Martin Keith seems to have a nice no-nosense vibe to his work.

Are you having him show you wood from his stock?

If not, and if you're open to using maple, you may consider checking out Link Removed (I'm not affiliated, just a fan). They have a hundereds of good pics for shopping (the "crafts" sets are luthier usable as well). By buying the top wood yourself, you may save some money. There's alot of killer sets for under or around $100.

I actually like the new top much better. The differing coloration on the first top was nice, but most of that would have gotten covered up by the bridge and pickups, and there were large areas with not much going on.

Rob Elrick told me my bass was sent off to Bass Central yesterday- hopefully I'll have it by next week!!

Thanks. I am going to look at his stock first...sounds like he has some interesting stuff. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Edit: Wow, there is some great wood there...I'll keep it in mind.

Congrats, glad to see some people's patience is being rewarded.

I hope I grow to share your opinion on the new piece.
You can't tell from the pics, but there was heavy flaming on the more plain portions of the old piece.
Here's how it was projected to look

I just thought it was perfect for this body shape.

Yeah, I remember you posting that detailed design sheet before, and I agree that the new top is better !!

Patience is very much a virtue, which is why we have this Support Group thread !! I hope that the problem with the top is the last serious delay you'll have.

Many on here (including myself) have suffered delays so we kinda know how ya feel !!
