Well, you can, but it wouldn't make much sense. I'd think it was more useful to have an ebony nut than a zero fret. You wouldn't want the open string to sound like a fretted and the rest as fretless, would you?thanks!! this might be a silly question so bear with me... can you have a zero fret on a fretless?

Well - I am getting this in a couple of days. Really stoked about it
I gotta tell you, I am really impressed with the work I have seen coming out of A.C. Guitars. Alan is building some beautiful instruments, and I am very intrigued by his approach to the electronics. Does yours have the filter-based East preamp? And correct me if I am wrong, but those mini-toggles are for single coil/both coils series/both coils parallel, per pickup, right? That is hella cool.
Again, beautiful bass!!!

Pre amp is as follows;
The AC BASS-EQ-01 is designed for two pickup basses. It consists of 4 stack knobs allowing control of volume and blend between the pickups, individual low pass filter characteristics for each pickup, and overall treble control.
Details of System & Controls:
VOLUME/BLEND STACK KNOB
* LOWER RING
- Active blend for smooth and even control of pickup balance.
* UPPER KNOB
- Low impedance volume control.
FILTER/PEAK STACK KNOB (A stack for each pickup)
* LOWER RING
- Sets low pass filter frequency for its pickup.
* UPPER KNOB
- Sets the level of overshoot peak for its filter.
TREBLE STACK
* LOWER RING
- Sets the frequency for the treble shelf.
* UPPER KNOB
- Sets the level of treble.
Plus toggles for series/parallel/coil tap

- 3 Octave maple neck with purpleheart stringers
- Thuya Burl Root front, back and headstock coverings
- Ebony fretboard
- Villex pickups and Glockenklang preamp
- GraphTech Ghost Piezo pickups and preamp
I just stumbled on this long-running thread. I am in need of support right now - I am approching the 7-month mark of waiting for the Modulus Q5 that was originally estimated at "8 to 12 weeks" from my order in mid-August of '06.
This sucks. I had expected that it might arrive in time for my band's annual private bash in November. Little did I know.....
I think the guys at BNW are frustrated as well and I don't blame them. I may be just paranoid from this long wait, but I have suspected that the guys at Modulus may have taken the bass that was made for me, and brought it to NAMM instead, where it found a different owner. Something I read on one of these type of forums led me to that suspicion. Hey- I've had LOTS of TIME to search and read things related to the topic.
The wait has been so mentally frazzling that in the time spent waiting, I have ended up buying an Epiphone Les Paul with a 30W solid state Marshall amp, and then a Gibson Les Paul with a 30W class A tube amp to keep form thinking about this damn bass. I've nearly lost interest in the bass by now. I could have bought about a dozen others that I saw for sale that would fit the bill for me.
I had to vent.

LP75, when I ordered my Modulus from BNW about 6 years ago, it took forever as well. I wanted one with 5A quilted maple and honeyburst, but they said it would take 6-7 months to build. So, I settled on a 5A quilted blackburst that was almost completed that they said would arrive in about a month or so.
About 7-8 months later, the blackburst arrived, with nowhere near 5A quilted maple and a gigantic unfigured section on the upper horn. It's like 4A, maybe, but the unfigured section is just rediculous when the 5A is an upgrade. I was pissed. BNW didn't do much about it, but I don't remember why- I think I was so happy just to finally get the thing that I didn't care that it was absolutely not the right thing, so it's probably my fault, but if I ever bought another I would send it back.
Modulus sucks with customer and dealer support. I don't know what their problem is the last few years, but I've never heard anyone who's ordered one who's gotten it anywhere near on time.

LP75 - Geez, that's an horrendous story. I don't think that people mind waiting a little extra time as long as their kept up to date. From what you've said it looks like they haven't spoken to you or BNW.
I'd be on the phone chasing the order and giving them a right rollocking (as we would say in London).
I'm off early tomorrow morning down to London to do some family stuff and collect my lacewood Sei 7 string www.seibass.com. The bass is just over 2 months late, but I've been kept informed of what the problem was and it was wwwaaaayyy beyond the Sei guy's control. The link to the build thread is in my sig.
I haven't seen the bass since the woodwork was finished, but those who have seen it in the last couple of weeks have said it's looking real good.
So it's farewell for the moment and, all going well, I'll post some pics when I get back on Tuesday.
My thanks go out to all the members of the S.O.C (Sei Owners Club) who have just been superb, posting regular updates about my bass and fielding my questions, concerns and paranoia

Got word from Rob Elrick that something that NEVER happens is going to occur- my singlecut six-string will be done about 4 weeks early
