Ah- I can see Fodera having a backlog that long.

I'm waiting on an Elrick e-volution singlecut 6-string to arrive in about 6 weeks. Not a custom order, but Bass Central had an order in for it and I pre-purchased it.

Thanks. The pickups will be Nordstrand DCs and the pre will be an Aguilar. I may change out the pre later on down the road. I play in passive mode 90% of the time. The bass will have an active/passive switch.

Btw, it is being made by Brian Ristola.

NYBW is New York Bass Works. They have a J style bass on their site that is INSANE looking.

Zero fret
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A zero fret is a fret placed at the headstock end of the neck of a banjo, guitar, mandolin, or bass guitar. The zero fret is positioned at the end of the instrument's scale, and serves to hold the string above the fretboard and other frets.

Function

The zero fret is positioned at the location normally occupied by the nut. On a guitar having a zero fret, the nut is located behind the zero fret and serves solely to keep the strings spaced properly. The strings rest atop the zero fret, which is higher than the other frets. This provides the proper clearance as the strings pass over the fretboard.

Purpose

The zero fret will give the sound of an open string a timbre identical to that of a fretted string. Many players find this to be an advantage, particularly those who frequently incorporate open strings into runs primarily consisting of fretted notes. The zero fret is commonly associated with less expensive instruments, since the cost of the labor involved in making a nut with slots carefully filed to the correct height is greater than the labor required to install a zero fret. Some manufacturers that frequently use(d) a zero fret are Gretsch, Kay, Selmer, Höfner, Anderson, and Vigier.

@ G: this is a custom made [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Spectrum. Body is made out of walnut and the top is koa. Neck is set-in, 3 piece maple with padouk layers and ebony fingerboard. The bass also features zero fret, fingerboard extension (you can see a thin line between the 21st and 22nd fret - there's a magnet underneth the extension), phosphorous side-dots (I hate dark stages), ETS Transmission bridge, Nordstrand dual coils placed in 60's jazz bass position (and you can split coils and get single coils), East / Wood&Tronics preamp (18V) with passive option and Hipshot Ultralight tuners. The control cavity cover is fixed by magnets, so taking it off and changing batteries should be quick and simple. The finish is polyurethan.
