thats some sick looking cocobola, where does alembic get all that amazing cocobola? They must have gotten a huge batch of it one point, cuz its kind of their signature look, and its very consistent from bass to bass. Super nice stuff!

I like that Alembic coco. Lots of depth, and real warm color with beautiful grain patterns. I just like that they can offer something so unique with such consistency. But hey, for 10 or 12 grand, I guess you should expect that kind of thing!!!!!!


P.S. I think you better tell them to drill a few more holes for knobs and switches if you want any kind of tonal options......:ninja:

10-12 Holes for the controls, yes. 10-12 Grand for the bass, no. Not cheap mind you, but not 5 figures (Beaver and the guys at Bass Central have been great).

As for the top, they asked me for a description and photos of cocobolo tops I liked and then they picked this. I couldn't possibly be happier with the choice. What's funny is that I originally wanted a purpleheart top, but it's apparently too hard to find in the size needed for the dragonwing. Boy am I glad I struck out on my original idea! The folks at Alembic have been terrific so far and that's made it feel like the time and money have been worth it. Of course, final judgement is reserved until I start playing the bass, since that's what really matters!

I often wish I had the capability to go to Chris and just say "can I "have at" your website?"

hmmm...Maybe it's time to start a foundation or a movement or something. :bassist:

I guess I just really like Chris' work.

But...Then again..........Maybe a website dated 2000/2001 and all covered with cobwebs and dust will keep Chris the best kept secret (and best prices) in North America.:ninja:

Ah, heck... I can only hope things go well for him ...he's a great guy and a great builder.

about Fred getting my money, yes.... this is out of pocket, I don't have time or patients for music industry webwork anymore. I have a real job and 2 bands :p

It will be made out of some wood I received as a gift from Gallery Hardwoods as an extra thanks after building a secure web form a long while back.

Bubinga top and back, bubinga board, wenge & bubinga neck stringers, butternut (a walnut family wood) core.

It'll be a 34" scale, 19mm @ bridge, bolt neck (like all my basses), fretless 6 with a Delano MC6-AL/V4 (my 7 has a MC7-FE which is also a choice... the AL/V4 has a brighter and ballsier ‘twang’ of vintage B 00 series Stingray... still up in the air) & one of Fred's pre amps.

:hyper: should have a hint of a pre EB fretless Stingray and a 90s Warwick thumb 6 fretless mixed in :bassist: and look, play and overall sound like one of Fred's masterpieces :cool:

Well, I've been in this group for some time but have neglected to post what was coming. I'm now told it is potentially less than a week before I'll have it in my hands.

Rob Allen has been building me a sweet bass, and though he's encountered some delays, I'm excited just the same.

Specs:
MB-2 4 string
Unlined fretless macassar ebony board
Walnut top on ash
Matching bound headstock veneer on a maple neck
Tortoise binding (on the body and headstock)


It should be great! Pics as soon as I have them :)

And in Stambaugh news, mine is set to be completed...right about now. And shipped monday! That's the plan anyways. I talked to Chris last week and he said everything was assembled and the oil finish was all done, he just had to finish up the electronics.

I'm supposed to be getting pics this weekend (aka: now....gimme, gimme!) :help:

while I took myself off the group's active roster for a bit (thanks, Fred, for my beautiful new Bee!), I'm back on big time!

my new Conklin should be completed in the coming weeks.

I just put in an order for a Nordstrand vJ5 (okay, not truly custom but still bad@$$!).

my fretless Huff is slated for completion after NAMM.

and I put in my deposit for my Adler 10 this week!
