Yes, tuning in 4ths has worked so far. 
You know what I find funny is this instrument will have one more note than my 6 string, 28 fret Fodera. lol So if i need that high F this is my bass! Actually I had Chris build this instrument so I can start learning to improvise leads. That can be done on any instrument but for me it just feels right on a 7 string, especially the way Chris builds basses.

Ha! See I've always tuned my Bass EADGBE so I'm just now getting a low B string, so I get a whole new 5 notes! lol. My reasoning for the 7 is that I love my 6 tuning but I can never cover primus tunes or anything else that uses the low B. and for playing along with 7 string guitarists.
Yeah, millions of guitarist can't be wrong?..lol
Chris made the only 7 string that I felt comfortable playing. For me it will be a natural change from my 6 string basses. It's funny but I already know how the bass will play. Sound wise I'm sure there will be some nice surprises but I can always count on Chris for consistency in his neck feel and fret work.

I know what you mean, but also I think you may be pleasantly surprised. Chris has been really honing in on his neck skills and our 7 string necks are more trimmed than my Vortex 6 neck was that I had him build about 5 years ago.
Overall the streamlined-ness of these 7's puts the Conklin's dimensions to shame
I'm looking forward to playing on the bass.
I wanted to comment on Bill Conklin and other luthiers in general. I had the pleasure of stopping by Bill's shop some years ago. It was a wonderful, productive visit although it never resulted in my ordering an instrument. I believe Bill is a one-of-a-kind, world class luthier and I LOVE what he does for his customers and his overall concept of the bass guitar. I did not feel "at home" on his necks. This is entirely personal and reflects nothing on Bill or his numerous customers. Just wasn't for me.
Over the years I have learned that people do what they do and if they do it well enough there are plenty of different people in the world that will pick up on that talent. I don't believe there is a builder in the world that could put one of Bill Conklin's instruments to shame. Not Fodera, (I own one) MTD, Fender..ect. It's just a personal preference and lucky for us there are different folks building our instrument and doing unbelievable work that give us a choice.
As you and I(and many others) have found out the work that Chris does works for us. Chris Benavente is included with the other builders I admire, Vinny Fodera, Michael Tobias, Bill Conklin, Ken Lawrence, Stuart Spector, Matt Friedman. I understand the temptation to want to own, "The best instrument" ever and feeling that others don't level up and in the case of craftsmanship happens especially with new builders.
Anyway, sorry for the rant and I meant no disrespect Jason. Just wanted to voice my opinion about yours and I am happy we can both express it.
